Why do some baseball players hold batting gloves when they're on base. Not wear the gloves, just hold them?

  1. It, holding the gloves, reminds them of "Mommy" and that no matter what, please (check with), "The Nattering Nabobs of Negativisvm.", that a true baseball fan still loves them.


  2. it forces the player to keep their hands closed to prevent  jamming or breaking  their fingers.  

    like mike young  ss texas  did last week.  when he dove back into 1st  and now he can barely hold a bat for the next 2 weeks  because he fractured his index finger

  3. It helps them keep their hand closed so they don't jam their fingers sliding.

  4. To help when they slide in head first so they don't break their fingers.

  5. They hold them to keep a fist.  A lot of players when sliding will open their hand exposing their fingers to get jammed or even worse stepped on.  Have you ever had your hand stepped on by a metal cleat?  Trust me it's not the greatest feeling.
