  1. Free anything is horrible much less universal health care because when it comes down to it the working class pays for it.

  2. I have no problem with a system that grants health care to everyone. I do have a problem if I have to pay for other people's health care, especially health care for illegal immigrants.

  3. I don't think it's "bad" or "horrible".

I just don't want to pay for it.  It's hard enough paying for health care for my own family.

  4. It isn't a horrible thing. The problem is the way some people are trying to do it. The American health care system has it faults, sure, but socialized health care surely isn't the only way to solve it - quite the opposite, if you ask me.

  5. i wish i had a better understanding of how it would work.  but then i guess there are different methods.

i spoke with a canadian about this..  it's not a perfect system, but financially is evens out with our present healthcare system.

a universal system will never be passed...  with pharma, insurance and health care industries being 'for profit'..  they won't let the govt cut into their bread and butter.

  6. Because then taxes will be very ridiculous (look at Canada) and you won't think it's very fair that the majority of your pay check is going to pay for others' medical expenses. Other people who might not have a job and might not plan to ever have a job and get free medical from the government paid for by you.

What we need is for guaranteed acceptance for medical insurance companies. They should not be allowed to say you can't have insurance just because you have a pre-existing condition.

  7. because doctors don't work for free so where do you think their paychecks will come from........taxes.... very high taxes .........thats the part that the dems wont tell you about paying for uni health care .the taxes will be outrageous.to me that sounds like a horrible thing and a pretty dumb ideal

  8. Health care exists for everyone already, public hospitals can not refuse service to you.  You want it, pay for it.

  9. I don't think that any sane person would suggest that it is a bad thing to provide health care to anyone.  In war, we provide health care to enemy soldiers who come within our control, in prisons we provide whatever care is needed to the prisoners.  Individuals in custody who are being investigated for crimes also receive any required health care.

So, we as a society, are clearly in favor of obtaining the necessary health care.  Doctors are required under federal law to provide any and all health care necessary to patients who present themselves with serious health related issues under serious penalties if they deny such care.  Hospitals are also required to do so.

It is the financing of health care that is so darned hard to figure out.  The "universal" approach is basically throwing one's hands up in the air and saying "I can't figure this out, so we'll just have the government pay for the whole thing."  This is a silly approach and attempts to avoid the issue altogether.

  10. It is not seen as a negative.  But as an disincentive for individuals seeking to maintain their health.   If someone else is paying for your dinner, you tend to overeat.   If someone else is paying for your health care you tend to over use it and to ignore the reason a person should seek to stay healthy.

I feel that everyone should pay out of their own pocket their health premiums to encourage people to not overeat, to exercise, to not be promiscuous (as a prophylaxis for STD's).  Money saved should be placed in a HSA (Health Savings account) which would be interest earning and totally non taxable as well as inheritable tax free.  This would encourage wealth accumulation and a healthy lifestyle.

  11. Technically we offer health care to everyone in the country.  You can see it first hand if you go to a ghetto area hospital or to a border state hospital like texas where illegals take advantage of it.  Its more of an issue of whose paying for it...

  12. It's not providing it, it's whose paying for it!

  13. No one is saying that health care for all is a bad thing. In fact everyone in America does have access to health care regardless of ability to pay already. The dispute revolves around who is responsible for paying for health care.
