Why do some bikes have a different back tire then the front tire?

I just bought a Haro X2 20" bike for my son and the dealer sold it with two different tires. Was this a mistake by the dealer or is there a reason for the two different tires. The front tire looks more like a mountain bike tire and the back tire looks smooth like more for speed. Does anyone know the reason for this or is this a dealer mistake. I hope this is not a dealer mistake because I paid alot of money for this bike.

  1. this is not a mistake. you basically already answered it yourself.

    backtire(smooth) for speed on road

front tire(Mont. bike) for traction and control on road and dirt.

the two different tires give the bike a happy medium of control on and off the road.

    hope this helped

  2. First, you got ripped off if you paid a lot of money for this bike. It should sell for $250 or so new.

Second, the tires should be the same.  The other answer is baloney.  The rear wheel is the only drive wheel on a conventional bike.  Someone changed the tires out.  The front tire is the correct one on this bike; the rear is not.

Haro factory specs are at the link below. Both tires are the same. Take it back to the dealer.
