I am going to be a freshman this year. When I was looking up classes to make my schedule, some classes say credit not given for the class.

  1. There are a few reasons why this may happen. One may be that the class is a developmental or remedial class. If you have to take these courses (which are most often in English or math), you don't receive credit towards degree completion because you are only taking the course to prepare you for a more appropriate level of study which will count.

Another reason that you may not receive credit is that the course is a lab which is attached to another course. The credit for the lab course may be rolled into the classroom portion of the course, hence no credit for lab.

Finally, some classes that are offered by colleges are designed for continued learning, or open to the community. This most often occurs in education (continued learning credits for teachers) or in the arts (a watercoloring course for the community). These courses do not fulfill degree requirements for students, and therefore do not have credit value attached.

    I hope that helps!
