Why do some cyclists in the tour de france grab a newspaper from the spectators?

Ive seen it happen at the top of climbs but im not sure if thats the only time it happens.

  1. They put it under their jerseys to help block the wind on the descents. The wind chill gets wicked after all that sweating going up and they don't want to get sick.

  3. hhaaha yea they grab them from the spectators and put them under their jersey to keep their chest warm.the newspaper helps keep the air in the chest warmer so the cold air wont give them a disease like bronchitis or shoot i forgot the other respiratory diseases.but  if they dont they are more at risk for catching something. since they are going on the descents, the air will be coming faster and colder.

  4. This is when they are bored and just want something to read for a while.

  5. They really don't what is happening on in the race, even if they are competing. They don't know who's in front or behind.

    Just to find out information. Although their support cars know a lot.
