Question:

Why do some drivers feel the need to have really bright lights?

You know the ones, usually European sedans, that have like super bright lights, almost white. (Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, etc.) What's the deal with those lights? They always blind me and they're really annoying! What's wrong with good, old-fashioned yellow headlights?

  1. They illuminate the road brilliantly?

I agree with you, they ARE annoying when you're not driving the car that has them.

  2. It sucks but you gotta get used to it because it is what new cars have. New cars have them for saftey reasons just like cars are becoming safer in collisions they are becoming safer in being able to see at night.

  3. they think they light up the road better.

  4. They need brighter lights to compensate for a d**k shortage. Same reason you see guys with jacked-up four by fours.

  5. They're nice to have, but a pain to look at. And to the original poster, Lexus isn't European, it's Japanese ;)

  6. My brother and his wife have an Infinity with those lights.  I think they came standard on that particular model, so if you want that particular car (which they did) you take it with those lights.  The advantage to those lights is that they illuminate the road better and for a greater distance in front of you, which is why they are so bright for oncoming drivers.

  7. yeah they are annoying, but i was driving at night on the interstate with the common "yellow" headlights and all of the sudden, a deer pops in the beam of my headlights, and i was going too fast to stop in time before i hit the d**n thing. If i had a car with the annoying bright european headlights, i might have been able to stop before hitting the deer.

  8. so they can see things around them and insure they can be seen

  9. some drivers a pretty dim, hence they need bright lights
