Why do some e coli produce a green metalic sheen and others do not ?

i had a micro lab project to where my samp[le was e coli but when the others was producing a metallic green sheen mine didnt. why did that happen? thanks in advance

A colony of Escherichia coli is expected to exude a greenish metallic sheen. Those colonies which fails to show this characteristic maybe plainly impurities and therefore are not colonies of E. coli.
