Why do some ebay sellers claim to be selling on behalf of someone with no internet access?

Is this true or does it let them escape some of their obligations under ebay rules? This seems to be getting very common, especially for big items like cars and boats.

  1. I have had lots of people ask me to sell for them but found it hard to sell for example answering questions regarding the item.

I would never do it again too much stress.

  2. No comebacks.

  3. Because very often the goods are faulty and then they claim "I told you it was not mine, I know nothing about it" In other words they plead ignorance, not really honest but then unfortunately Ebay is used by thousands of scammers. Sometimes it is the truth but beware!

  4. It is often true - i use ebay a lot (current feedback rating 962 all positive feedbacks) and now and then sell items for 3 or 4 friends who are not on the net. there are still millions of people not on the net and without computers. Saying you are selling for someone else does not relieve you of any obligations, but indicates that you may not have instant answers to a technical queries.

  5. It is called a consignment sale. When the owner doesn't want to mess around with selling, they hire someone to do it for them. It is a very common practice in the live auction/antique/estate sale world and normally does not indicate that something suspicious is going on. We have a client who hires us to sell his rare vinyl records on ebay for him, so it is not uncommon.
