Question:

Why do some gas stations (in the south) not automatically stop when the tank is full?

I'm from Cincinnati, and up until recently, had never been to a gas station that didn't automatically shut off when the tank was full. I almost always use this feature. But after being down in the south for awhile, I've come across gas stations that don't do this. Luckily, some of them at least have signs warning of this. I thought this might just be the case for older gas stations, but now.. I'm referring to what I saw today at a decently new BP station. If a pump doesn't have the automatic stop feature, I think it should be mandatory to either display a hard to miss sign with a warning (not that I saw any at all), or not include the click thing that allows a person to walk away from the pump (to clean windows or something).

  1. All of the newer pumps should have auto shutoff!    It may be possible that it doesn't work,   but that seems rare.    Point out the not working ones to the manager or clerk and force them to shut the pump down or face environmental and safety (fire danger)  complaints.

  2. I live in the South but I never knew there were pumps that don't shut off.  All the newer ones should shut off.  Maybe the pump you were at was broken.

  3. I live in the south and have never heard of this before but it would make since that they should have this posted in very large lettering and also maybe something is wrong with the pumps themselves because it is a safety issue..........
