Why do some girls have dark underarms?

and what is the best way to prevent them.

is it shaving too much?

the darker underarms are more present in people with darker skin tones, olive to black, you cant really do anything to prevent it, and NO ITS NOT CAUSED BY SHAVING.

You can however get some skin lightening cream from your local pharmacy/chemist, and apply it on your underarms, wich fades the dark look...and it works well :)

No it's just that their hair grows back darker and no matter how much you shave it, it's going to be dark.

when shaving the underarms, the hair is only removed from the surface of the area so it starts to grow back in a couple of days, thicker, which can be seen to make the whole area darker. waxing would be better as it takes the hair out from the root lightning the whole area.

           also some girls have dark underarms from wearing tight clothes which rub against the skin causing friction and marks . some deodrants are irritant to the skin so they also cause the area to go darker than normal.

Depends on your hair color and texture.  Even models and actresses who have darker hair have darker underarms.  In magazines, it is fixed, just like with their makeup and etc.  But if you ever see them on tv, you notice it.  It's really no big deal.  The more you fret over it, the more it seems noticable.  Just shave close.
