When I was little, I got a doll for my first christmas and a blanket when I was born. and I always carried the doll around until kindergarten. (i still sleep with the doll and blanket now. i'm 14) And a lot of my friends have things like that too. Why is that?? What makes that one doll of mine more special than my other xmas presents?

  1. Its a comfort, Mine used to be an elephant, dont ask why

  2. It is a security thing. Most kids start doing it as a way of feeling safe, having something from home with them wherever they go. Some people just continue to like it for longer than others do, lol...nothing wrong with it! :)

  3. It is a comfort thing/ for security..like you feel protected when you have it. When i was born my older sister gave me a bear that she sew'd i always carried it around still have it..and also my gma gave me this pillow that had a blanket inside of it..i slept with it all the time and took it on every car ride or vacation. Now older, instead of bringing those things with me, Even when its hot a lot of the time have to have a hoodie or sweater either with me or on or else i dont feel right or safe..kinda weird but i think its an ungoing thing  everyone just has a different item that they grow into to sorta mimic the ones from growing up.

  4. usually it isn't the gift that means something... but what it symbolizes. EX: a 5 year olds parents are fighting and she can't stand the constent bikering. They get divorced and she is forced to go back and forth. Her father is beating her and she gets sent back to her mother and she is so drunk she doesn't notice the scars and bruises. Her mother starts dating and the daughter hasnt' talked to her mom in weeks. The girl goes on a walk one day and gets hit by a car. The girl nearly escapes death and that snaps her mother out of her trance that she has been in since the divorce. The mother gives her child a teddy bear only. She tells her that she loves her. Later in life when that girl goes through something that hurts her just as much and that teddy bear gets her through it and tells her she'll be ok.

there are different reasons that aren't as dramatic but thats a big one

  5. the doll or blankie, or whatever the object is, brings the child comfort and makes them feel safe and secure in a way. over the many years and cozy naps, theirs an intimacy that gradually develops, something that a child is  bonded with as he grows. that's probably why. you may think its strange, but although I'm twenty four, my teddy still never leaves my side. luckily, its small enough to fit in my purse, or sometimes i drag my daughter along and have her carry it along with her own, to keep from making people confused. the bear was a present from my nana when i was three, she gave it to me when my mom remarried and we had to move away. now its been quite a while since nana passed away, but giving up teddy is  a tought my mind doesnt want to process. when my daughter grows older, im planning to pass it on to her. i get it dry cleaned every now and then..so its no bother.

( i apologize for my spelling, but i only have one hand available right now. i hope its understandable.)

  6. I Think With The Teddy's Its Like Having Your Own Little Friend To talk To And Share Secrets With...Don't Know About The Blanket

  7. Sometimes children might find it hard to talk to other people or adults about what is upsetting them, using this item as a sort of comfort.

  8. Because they are comfort items.

  9. It's a comfort thing. You have a "connection" with that, or the person who gave it to you. Maybe it's from someone who you were close to that has passed away, or maybe you played with it or felt comforted when you were near it.

  10. Because its familiar, its something that as a baby gave you a sense of security. So you carry it

into adult hood with you. If we don't have our memory's then what do we have?

  11. For a feeling of security.
