Why do some local stations call it "Action News"?

Why is it that some stations call their news block "Channel ## Action News" or "Eyewitness News ##"? What's the action in it? It's a news program, which is supposed to be informative, right?!

  1. It's just a marketing gimmick to get you to watch their news over other stations.

    Usually doesn't mean a darn thing... lol


  2. It's all about ratings. "Action" sounds exciting. That's all. Need a word that might entice people to tune in. Better than Channel ## Sluggish News.

  3. They're trying to make it exciting like a TV show.

    I remember when I moved to Tacoma there was an article in the paper

    "Jacket left in park."

    I knew it wasn't going to be very exciting.

  4. They are just names for the programs, nothing to do with what they broadcast.
