Why do some men think its acceptable to hit women?

Like some brag about it, and make jokes acting like its cool to hit a woman.

I think its totally r****d, anyone who hits women or brags about it are cowards, norman bates morons with no backbone to hit a man because they would recieve a severe beating.

What I think though, and I agree totally its wrong for a man to hit a woman, but therefore its just as cowardly for a woman to hit a man when she knows he can't hit her back - anyone agree?

What about if a woman attacked you a knife, can you hit her then? lol

Hi you could say the same about women, beleive me some women belittel there husbands and actually do phisical violence against them. It is not always the man who is a fault. So women can be just as violent. I have seen this myself. I am not saying that all women are like this and I am not saying all men are like this but it is a fact that men are agressive towards women far more than the other way around but it does happen . so there are two sides to every story.

I think these guys are the scum of the earth and deserve to be hung and quartered. Most men that hit women wouldnt dare hit a guy, so they have to exercise their "masculinity" by beating up the more fragile s*x

I tend to agree, they do it for a power trip on weaker people, BUT...I have to say I saw a rather big woman laying into a bloke once, punching and kicking etc and I have to say I saw him punch her on the shoulder to to knock her away. Then he walked away. If I was doing that to a bloke I would expect to be hit back.

A guy that hits some one who is wear then he is IS suffering from self esteem issues. He knows he cant take someone his own weight to he has to prove to himself and others that he is the MAN! honestly i would rip the guys balls off! and again its womans problem too, she lets him treat her like that, he hit once he will always hit u, no woman should take that c**p. PACK YOU BAGS lady and get da h**l out of the relationship

There are only three cases in which I think it's acceptable to hit anyone, man or woman.  The first is obvious and it's self-defense.  Every person has the right to protect him or herself from harm.  The second one is a sports-related activity such as boxing or martial arts.  I mean, isn't it the point to hit another when you compete in such activities?  The third is a little more controversial.  It's in the context of a BDSM relationship where the hitting is consensual.

Men who say they think it cool to hit a woman are seriously uncool. They are complete twats, and deep inside their rather pathetic souls they know it. Have approached a couple of these clowns in the street when they've been having a go at their girlfriends. One was even kicking a buggy with a baby in it. They gave me loads of verbals , but that was it. Then they slunk away like the low life cowards they are, no attempt to engage physically with me at all. Idiots.

I also think it's totally wrong for a man to hit a woman. It's the typical case of people bullying people who are smaller than them and ( they think) less able to fight back. Anyone who does this is definitely a coward in my book!!!
