It's just a stereotype. Just like, preppy people are all b*****s, goths worship Satin and stuff like that. Personally, I wouldn't take stuff like that to heart, it just shows how stupid the person calling someone that is.

because people are ignorant, they dont understand that some people suffer from major depressive disorder or boarderline personality disorder or anything else that may cause an urge to self-harm. personally i blame mainstream bands like my chemical romance that try to be emo and completly change the subculture into scene kids that started cutting for attention cuz they saw people with real problems do it. and since people who dont do it for attention try to cover up there scars everyone else only sees the "emo" kids doing it so that must mean only emos cut right?

I take it you mean cut yourself. In my experience as a counsellor( girls mainly) have come to me with a totally different problem. Its only as time passes and she feels a sense of trust that she feels able to talk adout it. Its not that these clients are emotional. All humans are emotional in different degrees. Cutting is normally done because of some deep rooted problems form the past. If you are cutting I strongly suggest you get yourself a good counsellor. I wish you the very best
