  1. I think the only answer to that is on some of the immediate family of the murder or kidnap victim do not like to be expose in the media that is why they preferred to make it as low profile as possible. I knew one rich family who do not like to be name who were kidnapped and to get it over with payed the kidnappers.  They told the media their story after 3 years.

THE PROBLEM with kidnapping incident if they are expose immediately on the media, the lives of the victim are at stakes. That is why the police kept the media away as possible no lead and no exposure to the public. To keep it as low key as possible and not to alert the kidnappers that the public already knew the story. Never seen the movie RANSOM of Mel Gibson? Instead of succumb to the wishes of the kidnappers for the life of his boy, Gibson according to the story expose the kidnapping to the MEDIA against the wishes of her own wife and the FBI. Rich people most likely do not like to expose their situation in kidnapping incident that is why you notice some don't hit the headlines.

In murder, it is a different story almost all murder incident are expose in the media and have wide range of coverage, rarely some don't because of some news are covered by different newspaper, so if you think some murder don't get national coverage take a second look around you. Everybody knows it.

  2. It's a matter of money.

If it's someone with a lot of money, the case gets more attention.

  3. With murder, it has more to do with the media than with law enforcement folk.  WIth kidnapping, well, I think it's the same.  I mean, there are Amber Alerts in many, if not all, states, so people who are in a place where they can receive the alert are going to know about a kidnapping.

But really, think of how you know about these things... The News.  If the media doesn't think it's worthy news, then YOU & I don't get to know about it.

  4. It's your fault - not you specifically, but all of us actually.  The media are only giving us what we've led them to believe is of interest to us.  Every time you see a hot blonde get the attention taht people of color do not, or people who aren;t young or attractive or have a famous name get - you're seeing the media try to mirror what we are into.  They think that we don't care if somebody old, or non-white or just not very interesting was kidnapped, assaulted or murdered by somebody who isn't a Kennedy relative.

  5. Because the media knows that people will tune in to watch stories about murdered/kidnapped rich white women and will tune out for poor minorities.

  6. Hate to say it, but it helps if the victim is a hot blonde.

  7. Because the news can't cover everything that happens. After all, someone dies every 3 seconds everyday.

  8. depends on the shade of skin

  9. Its who is involved if its someone of interest then they have the light.

  10. it depends how unusual it is

  11. well, pretty and young victims get more press. it also helps to be white and wealthy, famous or infamous.

  12. The ones involving famous people and controversy will always get the best news coverage.

People love controversy, and the media uses it to boost ratings.
