The planets Uranus and Neptune appear superficially to be very similar. There size, coloration, and mass are all comparable. One major difference between the two planets is the atmospheric activity seen as banding and major storms. So...

Why do some of the gas giant planets show significant atmospheric banding and large oval-shaped storms? What is one possible reason that Uranus does not show as much activity as Neptune?

  1. i assume it has to do with the thickness of the atmosphere itsself... i believe uranus' atmosphere is very thin.... i KNOW jupiter's is very thick....

  2. Scientist's are not able to understand the exact cause of storms ,tornadoes etc.

the phenomenon is caused by various forces & INVOLVES VARIOUS PHYSICAL PARAMETERS.

It is yet to find out that which physical parameter has to the what extent bears the cause of such activities.

So i suppose it is a Great Research Topic at Ph D level if one is intended to do.
