As long as my shoes are professional I don't see what the big deal is. Also, I dress conservatively because I want to be taken seriously not be one of these idiots giving backrubs and making coffee. I was so laid back in college but after a few years in the real world. I think women are following stereotypes more then men are forcing them on us and I think this should stop.

  1. The problem is that merit is given low priority as compared to gender.

How you look makes a lot of difference in corporate world.

I'am very sad to hear your disgust because if you have the merit and the professionalism than you should not have to go through this.

Take a bigger example in US presidential elections were they actually focused on merits of the candidates or the colour of the skin and gender?

I think you will get the point with more corporate experience.

  2. I'm sure those same women wouldn't say anything to me about wearing heels. That's because I'm well over six feet tall in heels and I would tower over them.

  3. Take in a pair of stilettos and stab them with the heels.

  4. First of all - why do you care?

As an attorney I must dress professionally.  That means no open toed shoes, and heels no higher than 2 inches.  Flats are fine.  You are in the right on this issue.

  5. Ae you sure those dumbbells aren't on here?  More than a few of our GWS rocket scientists think a woman isn't a women unless she's in high heels all day.  Really!

Good for you!  They're just jealous because you can think for yourself.

  6. The saying "dress for success" does have some merit. If you dress bland, people will view you that way. If you think your work is all that matters, you are seriously incorrect.

I do not mean to be harsh, but give it a few more years and you will realize what I am stating.

  7. I don't get it.  What do heels have to do with gender stereotypes and backrubs?

  8. You can wear whatever the heck you want to. Maybe you should pick on them for ruining their feet just to look good at the office.

  9. Starting from age 4, girls fight with girls, all day ... every day.

  10. I agree. You should wear what makes you comfortable.  For work I wear shoes with no more than 2 inch heels.   Anything higher is really bad for your back.

  11. Well I think there is always a comprimise. You can look fabulous and still look conservative and do your job well. Pencil skirts, fashionable belts and V neck large collered/cuffed white shirts with a lower Vnecked thin jumper or stylish cardigan works very well for office wear. There are also many styles of flats that are both comfortable and fashionable. If you yourself are not that bothered then I wouldn't worry about it, but there are pleanty of ways to look fashionable in a working environment.

  12. good for you

  13. Why do you care? Are you 12? It's work, not high school!

Let them think what they want. If you are abiding by the dress code of the office, and look professional in your appearance no-one has the right to say anything.

Next time someone comments, ask them to pick up the filing from your desk.

And stop worrying about what people who think about what you wear think of you.

    Cheers :-)

  14. So tell them that. They have no right to criticize your wardrobe unless it's unprofessional, which it most certainly is not. But to be fair, you can wear heels at work and get ahead.

  15. These "girls" obviously aren't chartered accountants.

Is this a symptom of a greater ill?  Maybe get a job where you are working with a more educated, better class of people.

If you're too low on the totem pole, you might want to consider getting some additional professional training.  I guarantee you, professional grownup women are not interested in your footwear.

    Or just ignore it.

  16. women are catty. Alot of the women I work with prefer working with men over women since they don't backstab and nitpick like working with groups of women do. As long as you are doing your job and your supervisors are happy with your job. Keep doing what your doing.

  17. I can see being picked on if its a kindergarten ; but grown women should know better . Ignore it . It's not like it really matters or anything . Life's too short .

  18. Because many women are very shallow and obsessed with appearances.  Take no notice of them.  high heels are very bad for your feet anyway.

  19. Be professional and comfortable as it sounds that you are.  Perhaps they feel there is an on-going beauty contest at work, or they want you to share in their pain, feet hurting at the end of the day due to wearing heels. LOL.

  20. Since you are dressed professionally don't worry about what others think of your shoes...besides, they are probably jealous that you are comfortable and they are not!

  21. I totally agree with you.
