Why do some of the respondents insist on being rude toward homework questioiners?

Yes, I too very firmly believe that homework should be done in time for the expiry date, and also value the personal research done by the student, But why, when reading the answers to a question, are some of them so unbelievably rude?

All people don't like history, so research to them is a labour. But to we who frequent these categories because we enjoy history or Royalty or whatever it may be, enjoy discussing a subject me may find interesting or have extenstive knowledge about.

So please don't waste space by posting rude answers? Allow the rest of us our little indulgences.

  1. Mmm.  I try very hard not to be rude.  Sometimes I am sarcastic, but only when IMHO the question is, as was put so well ,"borderline stupid".

But then as I often say - there are no stupid questions only stupid answers.  Thank you for making me re-think my responses.

  2. Because respondants here come to share knowledge, provided the questions are honest.

We don't come here to do people's homework for them.

This is compounded by the fact that in many cases, the questions are so basic as to be borderline stupid, and could be researched with basic googling, or even straight from wikipedia.

Add to that the bother when the asker doesn't even have the smarts to look whether the question has already been asked (how many times did I stumble on exactly the SAME questions, without even a matter of angle to put variation?) and you see why some of us get downright tired. of it.

  3. I completely agree. The point of Yahoo Answers is to ask questions. We shouldn't be rude to anyone asking a question.

In their defense have you noticed that the majority of people asking for homework help can't spell? If you really want someone to do your homework for you the least you can do is run a spellcheck over the question.

  4. i agree, most people are rude on here because they wouldn't be able to get away with it in real life

  5. I don't know.  I think it is very mean-spirited.  I have no objection to answering homework questions, and I don't see why people who dislike them don't just pass on to questions they do like, instead of posting spiteful comments.

  6. i honestly dont know why people are so rude

I'm a history fanatic, even though AP US History is kicking my butt.

  7. Some people may think u are just not wanting to put out the effort to do it yourself, some are just plain jack as*es!...Sorry for how some treat people on here-have a good one!...

  8. I wondered about this myself. I've noticed that tendency too.

I've been lucky for the most part here though because I often have word and grammar problems I need help with because English is not my first language. Many people have helped me here. (It isn't homework though. I write University level articles that often need to be published in English! Maybe they think the askers here are cheating or something. I don't really know.)

  9. I am a retired teacher. It is the student's responsibility to do the research, whether they like it or not! Life is filled with loathsome things that must be done. There are better sites than this one for doing research. Too may students come here expecting others to do their work for them.

As to rude answers: there are too may rude people in this world. They were not raised very well.In this over-technical world, social niceties are lost.People don't really know how to communicate properly, ore gracefully. They also think that anonymity gives them free reign to be rude. Also, since Answers is not policed, many posters have noticed that they can post anything they want and receive points! Some just post any rude thing they want and get away from it because there are no real consequences here. The staff is poorly trained and/or poorly paid so they ignore the many indiscretions that happen here many times, daily.

  10. You're quite right, I feel if you can't reply with some courtesy then why reply at all.

Although it's not only in this category you find very rude people, I have found this one  more pleasant than News and Events, or Mental Health

  11. This has probably already been said but hey, answering questions on here is the point, so here goes...One reason people are so rude is probably simply for the sake of it, for the sake of answering a question and getting the points or whatever  it is that you get. I've seen a few of the types of posts your talking about and I have noticed that in some cases, people are rude because the original poster is asking their question in a manner that suggests they didn't bother doing the research themselves, they wasted away all the time they had to do the assignment and are now hoping that people on here will give them the answer on a platter.

Having said that though, if a person passing through happens upon one of these questions and takes objection, it would make a whole lot more sense just to keep on going rather than be rude and nasty and/or hurl abuse at some kid, because they didn't do the most perfect thing - doing their assignment on time.

  12. There is no excuse for being rude.

But you're assigned homework for a reason.  It helps you learn.

And "those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Someday, you're going to be running the world.

If you're uneducated because you cheated by getting other people to answer your questions for you, the world will suffer for your lack of planning or laziness.

An example that comes to mind is George W Bush - how much damage do Americans have to repair now because they weren't educated enough to know that electing a religious fanatic was a mistake?

So do your homework - avoid the next disaster.
