Why do some parents still give their kids baths at 8,9 or 10 years old?

I know parents have different ideas on how to raise their kids but these ages struck me as old for still giving kids baths. My own kids had developmental delays as preschoolers and my oldest had speech/language problems as a 6 year old. Nonetheless they were 6 years old when they took baths without help from me and they weren't "advanced" kids.

Why do some parents give older kids baths? Is it because they don't think the kids will be clean enough to do it on their own and the parents want them extra clean?? Before Yahoo Answers I rarely hear of kids getting baths at these ages.

wow-I am stunned at some of the answers here.
First and foremost all pediatricians, child professionals will tell you 5 or 6 is the age children ( boys and girls) start showing Independence and body awareness and start wanting privacy.  Your suppose to encourage this not hinder it!!! Independence is a good thing-
Some of the obvious stupid answers are:
-It encourages a closer relationship and bonding experience-( if your a pedophile , perhaps)
-They can't do a very good job-they will get better if you let them alone-you can check them out after they have showered or bathed after they are dressed!!!!Washing their hair is a poor excuse for not letting them grow up! -
As parents we are suppose to encourage all the independence the child can handle-so keep your selfish, childish inclinations to yourselg and help your children grow.

A variety of reasons.The parents might want to make sure the children are clean or it is still a special one on one time between parent and child. Some moms have been known to bathe their sons even into the teen years. There should be nothing wrong with still bathing older children as long as the child is comfortable with it. Mony teenage boys still have no problem with mom seeing them naked.
