Why do some people act differently toward you in front of others or their friends?

So I met up with someone I had been online friends with for 2 years. She was cool and we got along well and became close, etc etc. She lived in a city 3 hours from me, so since I was there on a school function, I met up with her. I hung out with her and her friends and it was like she would act rude to me or just different when around them. It was annoying. What was the point of that?
