Question:

Why do some people answer cat questions in such a judgmental and unkind way?

I asked a question about whether a cat should be in my bedroom at night - so many helpful answers but one guys seemed to think I shouldn't even have a cat for asking that question. Hurtful. I LOVE my kitten.

Also, some people are sooo judgmental about the INDOOR / OUTDOOR debate. Again, someone said I shouldn't have an indoor cat and why did I bother getting one. There's such a lot of debate about this point - between EXPERTS!

So, why do some people seem to go out of their way being needlessly critical of others, while the rest of you are so helpful? Anyone else feel this way - or am I going to get a torrent of abuse? If people can't give a constructive answer then do us all a favour don't answer at all!

  1. i know you love your kitten

    and when they are inside

I pat and stoke them just like you

    but I must soon confide

when they go out to hunt and stalk

    I really change my view

they torture bats and baby birds

then bring them back to you..!!

and even though you say."bad cat..!.."

    it doesn't change their habit

because next day ...as you will see

they ll bring a baby rabbit..!!

on balance then... what is the best..?

    a cuddly furry pet..?

a killer living in our house..

    ......although we do regret

or should we say no.....no more cats..!!..

    lets neuter every one

    and bring the population down

and give the rest a run...!!

  2. People love sharing their opinion and will believe that it's the best one out there. Not really much we can do, sorry...

However, I did read your previous question, and there are pros and cons to the indoor/outdoor debate. People say it's "cruel" to keep a cat indoors. Really? It's cruel to increase their life span by several years, so that they can't catch diseases or be hit by cars or be the subject to animal abuse from stupid kids. While I can understand a cat's need to roam, they do just fine in an apartment with a window. So, I appreciate  that you're keeping your cat indoors and doing it a favor. Congratulations, you're a responsible owner :)

  3. I think a lot of people (not just in cat section) are overcritical and aggressive.  I understand people want to make a point, but berrating people isn't going to do it.  Education isn't about shouting your opinion at people, it's about teaching them something and having a dialogue.

  4. I love cats. They make good bookends. Pricey to get stuffed, but they last forever.

  5. I totally agree with you!

  6. Thankfully the helpful people on here outnumber the mean ones, so try to ignore those who make spiteful comments.  Nasty or hurtful remarks just make that person come across as ignorant or arrogant and I often wonder if they're as rude in person.

As for the indoor/outdoor debate, I believe it's up to people to decide for themselves what's best for their cat based on their own location and circumstances.  As long as your cat is safe and happy, it's not up to a complete stranger (who may not even live on the same continent) to criticise your decision.

My mum always taught me that if you can't say something nice, then don't bother and I agree with that sentiment.

  7. People get huffy about their opinions. I have been guilty of it when I see blatant stupidity or neglect. I recently asked a question and got alot of info about outside cats in different countries. I was unaware that in the UK for example, there are laws that cats must be allowed outside and there are no coyotes or other cat predators. They don't understand that in the US there are many dangers for outside cats. Your huffy answer may have been from a person from there where it's considered cruel to keep cats indoors. Lots of people on this forum rescue or work for vets and see horrendous things happen to animals. It causes them to get angry at some of the things brought up here. Sorry you got flogged.

  8. You may get some abuse from uncaring, unfeeling rots of humanity, but ignore them.

Some people are just mean, and some of them are also Top Contributors.  Sad, isn't it?!

Your cat's opinion of you is the only one that matters, and I bet your kitty thinks you are the greatest!

  9. I know how you feel I asked a question and I got an attitude for asking... it was a honest question.. and i got my head bit off

  10. I agree,

Everyone has there own opinion on every subject. I believe if you are going to answer a question just try to be helpful. Unless the question involves animal cruelty.

  11. I LOVEE YOU!!!!

    NEHA!

  12. Very well put!  Some people seem to think that a mean or abusive answer means they know what they are talking about.

  13. I agree.  There is no need to be mean.

I'm all for expressing one's concerns.  For example, I happen to be one who believes cats should be kept indoors and that they should not be declawed, but I wouldn't judge a person because of their decisions.

A cat being declawed is better than a cat with no home.

A cat who is allowed outdoors os also better off than a cat with no home.

I am sorry you had a hurtful experience here.  Try to ignore those types of responses.  : )

  14. I agree completely. I asked a question about my kitten peeing on the carpet and people were asking if she was inbred, accusing me of keeping her in a tiny room, asking if she was declawed (i would never it is cruel) and various other nasty things. I was just worried and wanted some advice and all i got was abuse and bad judgement!!!

Some people need to read questions properly first.

  15. trust me, this happens to almost EVERYONE.... dont worry people are just bored during the day dont take it personally. Also that thing about the indoor/outdoor cats? the jerk who said that is an idiot..if he really cared about cats he would keep them inside for safety reasons...example: cats can easily be carried away by a hawk or some big bird. so just learn to ignore those kind of people who do that
