I held a yard sale this morning so there were several strangers coming by this morning. Later, as I was putting stuff up, I noticed that there were cigarette butts left - as gifts? One was in a potted tomato plant. The other butt I witnessed as the guy smashed it out on my driveway and left it as he was speaking with me. He was pleasant and I'm assuming he didn't mean to be rude, but shouldn't people know better? Am I crazy? (I'm not a smoker, btw).

  1. I've always thought it was very rude.  When I smoked, I always put it out in an ashtray.   I guess some people just don't realize how rude they are.

  2. These guests should have refrained from smoking on your property to begin with.

A good host would supply tobacco can for them to place their ashes - that would give an ignorant guest the opportunity to redeem themselves.  Chalk it up to experience.

Maybe you can hold a Fire Sale next time...

  3. I agree, that is rude.

I'm a smoker and am proud to say that all of mu butts end up in the garbage.

  4. I hate that. And I hate it when people throw them out their car windows and it hits my car. People don't understand that not everyone smokes, and the non-smokers do not want to be near their smoke or their cigarette butts. People are rude. They also need to realize that eventhough it's just a butt, it's littering.

  5. Yes that was rude.Have you considered a place to dispose of them?A flower pot with kitty litter that's what we do when we have outdoor activities and someone does smoke.Since it is something to be disposed of you can't expect them to tote it around. That's being considerate on your part.It goes both ways.I am sure with the proper place your guests would have been considerate of you and disposed of them properly.

  6. it is rude to leave cigarette butts on your lawn but unfortunately you don't know who left them. If the neighbours do something like that one can always have ''a friendly talk with them and ask them to please remove them and not do that again.'' but with so many people at the yard sale you have to accept it as you don't know whom to accuse.
