My dad and I never feel seasick but my sister and mum do. Could it be inherited?

  1. I have a twin brother (fraternal). He always got motion sickness even when he was young. Even today he gets sick if he is a passenger in a car for a long time.

I only got sick once (on a boat).  But I've taken lots of boat rides because I scuba dive - and only once I got sea sick.  I think I ate something bad that day. :-)

So it isn't all about inheritance either.  It just is...

    Good luck...

  2. why do some people hear better than others?

yes, it is inherited, but not everyone will get the same inheritance even within a family.

oh, and back to the 'hear' question.  as mentioned, motion sickness is related to the motion of the fluid in the inner ear.  this is the same part of your body that gives you balance and prevents vertigo.  so take care of your ears...

  3. i think it's genetic

  4. Easy babe they stay on land.

  5. Sorry i don't have an answer, but i also would like to know why.

I noticed when i have been on ferries i don't feel ill, but i once went sea fishing for my 40th birthday treat to myself, and it was only when we stopped and anchored up and the boat was rocking in the very slight waves, thats when i was ill, and 2mins later i cought my 1st fish.

It may be that i was eating some cold chicken on the way out that didn't help.

Anyway i will be watching to see others answers.

  6. Sea sickness is related to the fluid in the inner ear,  some people will always get seasick because of a lot of things, some physical, some dietary, some definitely psychological.

There are medicines, they will work most of the time, but not for all people.

Good diet before going out:  no alcohol, fats, or sugars before going to sea helps a lot.

When at sea, stay on deck, watching the horizon, try not to be where you are breathing the exhaust.

Use a medicine that you can cope with, some will knock you out, some will be ineffective for you.

I have known some people that will get sea sick upon going off shore, but once inside protected water are perfectly fine.

I have also known for a lot of people, if you are responsible for the boat and crew, you have an inner self that will actually block sea sickness.

  7. The vast majority of people will get seasick in rough weather....its all down to the fluid in the middle ear....however, if you get sea sick in fairly mild conditions, it could be just that you are expecting it to happen, which is why many seasick pills make you tired, so you fall asleep and are not aware of your surroundings. If you think you are going to be sick then you are already half way there. Be positive, the best place is in the centre of the ship outside where you can see the horizon and get some fresh air.

  8. why do some people get car sick and others dont?

people are different some people do and some people don't.

  9. I do not believe that it is inherited.  It is caused by the fluid motion in the inner ear, it will try to compensate for the motion of the boat or car or other outside force.

I have know people that swear they never get sea sick, been out in rough water hundreds of time with no problem and then on trip they get sea sick.   I know charter boat captains that get sea sick once in the morning on the way out and are good the rest of the day.

Stay busy, stay hydrated, eat well, try not to focus on any one object for to long  - that should help with keep your mind off the problem.

Good Luck and Boat Safe ! !

  10. It depends if people are of a nervous disposition or not.

It really depends the way the body, will and personality is.
