Why do some people choose to stay at their house when a major hurricane approaches?

first, they want to protect their property in case looters come after the storm, but how can you protect if you don't live through the storm?

second, some are unable to, due to gas prices, hotel costs, and food costs, some people just can't afford to evacuate.

third, some people are just stupid. hate to sound that rude, but some people are just stubborn.

my house is pretty high in elevation for houston texas (katy) and i'm pretty far inland. I live on a street with cooperative neighbors who watch out for each other.  so i stay.

Because there's not always a need to leave. Calmly evaluate your situation. If your life or health is in danger, leave. Otherwise, secure your home and stay.

Panic only endangers yourself and others.
