Would you agree that at the end of the day it all comes down to concentration?

  1. For me, its the belief that the sense of sound will be heightened(to some extent). I'm just a believer in that theory, not actually saying that it is relevant to your question. Aren't you familiar with what happens to people who are blind(I know you are)? Their other senses are heightened.

When I close my eyes, I block out some of my environment(i.e. distractions) in order to focus more on what I want(or need) to hear. I've used this tactic a lot in my Spanish class when my teacher would play recordings of people speaking Spanish ultra-fast so I could better decipher what is being said.

Edit - lol, I guess you have a valid point there. The thing is, I think that this system is actually conducive to my concentration skills (either that, or its what I am being led to believe after doing this so much). For all I know, it could be purely psychological....and that my sense of sound is actually not improving. By that logic and numerous times that I have done this, it could be that I was being led to believe that keeping my eyes open wouldn't have the same effect as if my eyes were closed.

  2. It helps you not look at any distractions.

  3. To block out all of the potential distractions.

  4. So that they can give it their undivided attention.

  5. well if you take away one of your five senses it makes your other five senses stronger. for example blind people can usually hear better than people with eyesight.

  6. Closing one sense strengthens the others

Not exactly for concentration. It's more for building up the areas of the brain related to hearing. You still hear all the sounds going on but stronger

  7. Closing the eyes helps to focus ones mind.It avoids distractions.

  8. They're probably trying to block out as many distractions as possible.

  9. I Used to Do this for Auscultation of Heart Sounds, but Not Only With Listening, Breast and Other Exams too.

    EDIT: Yeah Jamal, it Helps.

  10. It can be two reasons.First one it means "here we go again"   second one would be they close their eyes to visualize what the person is saying....bd

  11. People close their eyes to bring to

mind the situation, and make a

    decision.

At the end of the day concentration

    is a key factor.

  12. Shuts down one sense in order to make another stronger.

Ever heard of the blind man with the keen sense of smell? Similar concept.
