Stars, you do that, my point is Ireland has more than its fair share of trouble with the things you mentioned America was negative for.

  1. I agree.

  2. You know what gets me?  The ones who don't assimilate.  I've lived in my neighborhood all my life; the past few years have been an influx of Mexican illegal immigrants.  So now when I walk down the street, I am harassed by these men hissing at me and staring.  They say the most disgusting things and most are drunk by 5pm.  We don't treat women like that in this country.  What's infuriating is this is MY city and they're making me feel uncomfortable.  I've taken to burning them with cigarettes and when they come at me I yell INS and they scatter.

  3. Love America to death. After being born and brought up in the Middle-East for 13.5 years, and being treated there as a non-entity, I have to say it feels secure to have laws protect my rights. Very few countries actually exercise human rights laws and the US is definitely one of them. I LOVE USA!

  4. Oh.  I thought you were talking about Y!A.

I have never met anyone who moved here and then cursed out the US.  My experience has been exactly the opposite - the new citizens defend their new country the loudest and longest, because they comprehend how lucky they are and appreciate it.  It's the privileged few who think they're qualified to judge democracy vs. everything else.

You run into anyone who badmouths us, you just come tell Baba and I'll deal with them, oh yes I will.

ETA:  how the h**l do you know I never lived in NYC??!!  I worked there for years and lived most of my life in the blue-collar neighborhoods of northern NJ.  I KNOW whereof I speak.  Every one of the immigrants I knew would never, ever badmouth this country.  The ones you're talking about are the students who come here for an American education.

  5. ah, the vapid culture, instability in the world, chest beating jingoism and lack of knowledge of the outside world irks people. the american bashing thing is old hat now and i've always thought it was foolish blaming individual americans for the sins of their government.

when people from less self centered cultures visit they are sometimes shocked by what they see.

  6. I can't say that I am "proud" to be an American I prefer to reserve pride for something I actually earned.  I have always been happy to have been born in America and I served my country so I did earn some pride for my country there.  Most people who yell about pride in their country have never served it and two to one never been out of it.

I personally feel that military service should be mandatory for everyone.  As for our immigration everyone wants to reform I say why?  After all anyone from any country can serve and then become a citizen.

As for immigrates that complain about our country I really don't care enough Americans do that anyways.  Its one of the benefits of our country to be able to be here and not love it.  That's why we work at our country so much.  We haven't been the most upstanding country and we have done things that most of us should not be proud of but we can be proud that we always try to do better.

If you hated America where would you go?  America has the easiest immigration policy compared to all other countries and we insist on fighting to make it easier. Most people would have the money or the resources to move to another country and the immigrants that do come here were usually lucky to have.  I say no need to worry as some of the answers here prove if they don't love it they will eventually leave it to return home.

  7. For the same reason  those who ride Japanese bikes ,curse Harleys.

       Envy.

  8. Sounds like a plan to me...oh wait the d**n terrorist are busy getting college degrees here.

  9. Erm, why is this in the gender section? I have never been to America so I don't know what it is like but something I will say, is that being in the UK and coming on here has opened my eyes to how much problem with USA still has with gender!

EDIT: If you are talking about generally, then it's the same with all countries like ours.

In the UK we have loads of illegal immigrants who are happy to have benefits and all the good thigns we offer, yet they are the ones who have the gun crime and make areas bad. Yet then they will complain that flying the british flag is offending them....

  10. I am from Ireland and I never slander America BUT you are the country that gave us Jerry Springer type chat shows, a whole set  values that usurped qualities of the spirit in favour of big ****, big *** and size 0, you gave us diabetes and heart attacks through your obesity inducing foods, you gave us immorality and  crime to an unprecedented extent and a whole society predicated on the superficial and what looks good then what IS good. Perhaps that is why people dislike America? It has had such a pernicious influence on the world! And people generally view Americans as loud mouthed ignorant hicks!

I do not believe so, but that is just how it is. And ofc you are not solely responsible!

Wow, asker, you must have been hanging out with the IRA then if your Irish buddies joked about bombing the English in Northern Ireland! What were you doing with terrorist factions? LOL.. I must raise my eyebrow to your seemingly tenuous connections to our land.

Edit: America has been a superpower and a potent force in the world since the end of WW2. In the twentieth and 21st century whatever attitudes or policys America adopts suffuse through the globe effecting all Western first world countries. In the seventeeth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, England was the shaping influence due to colonisation. I am not particularly nationalistic or anything and I see the virulent productions of America not in patriotic terms but as a manifestation of  human nature and its more degraded and profligate side. One stil cannot deny that America or at least elite groups in America that control the media, and fashion are detrimental to the world as a whole.

  11. I did not like America and the American Way of Life.  I worked there for a few years.  I left America for good in 2002.  Before coming to America, I worked for a few years in UAE, Middle East.  I prefer that life compared to American.  But since home is where the heart rules, I am happy to come back and settle here.  I live in India.

They run Y!A... they run your country!  how can you ask them to leave if they run the show?

  12. Most immigrants are thrilled to be here, and happy to be working, perhaps they just aren't as loud as those you've encountered.

The service industry employees down here on the border are nicer and more enthusiastic than anywhere else in the country.

  13. You know, many people born in America are considering leaving it, because of the parody of a police state that we are living on.

In many areas we have become the exact opposite of the values that America stood for. We have become timid and let a government grow and decide for us. The once land of the free have become the land of the contempt and politically correct. Instead of people we have become cattle.

  14. hahaha! I agree with you. Some people don't know how good we have it here! I'm a proud American too!

EDIT- One bad thing about America today is that everything is going so fast and we want more. We really need to take the time to stop and smell the roses.
