Isn't it annoying when your riding with someone and they can't drive a consistant speed? The speed up, then slow down a little, the speed up a little, then slow down alittle....

Makes me want to crash the car!

Why do people do this? Do you do it? WHY??

  1. cuz they drive automatics

  2. My sister does that when multi-tasking...she gets distracted when talking on the cell phone or looking for a store and just driving along and conversing. It's like she can only concentrate on keeping pressure on the pedal for a few seconds....makes me ill and seasick when I ride with her so I always offer to drive.

  3. It's because they got into the habit of driving in this manner, and I agree it's bloody annoying, and maybe they need to go and do an  advanced driving course.

  4. I leave ample space between me and the car in front. Not only does it give you less chance of getting into an accident, it also saves wear and tear on your car. I have even learned to give more space when I see someone in front of me constantly braking, because I know they probably need some driving lessons.

  5. maybe they like accelerating their car then realize they need to slow down so they don't hit the car in front of them. they also might be pumping their brakes.

    it does annoy me too...

  6. Its quite annoying, human stupidity is my guess. When I first read your question I though you were talking about the California bay area trend of the break gas dip where a big car or suv with a soft suspension will hit the gas then the brake then the gas again ect... causing the car to bounce around. Its been done on the highway theres a video on youtube of a escalade doing it.

  7. I think two of the greastest things God invented are perscription sunglasses and cruise control.

I have the habit of drifting slower as I drive. So I begin at 60mph and before you know it, I'm going 50 or so. Most people are the opposite.

For both of us I heartily recommend cruise control, even on city streets. It works at speeds as slow as 30mph. The trick is YOU can use it, but can you convince your driver to use it.

  8. I'm with you - it is annoying.

Many people don't really realize how much their speed varies up and down until they are sitting in the passenger's seat. While they are holding the wheel it stabilizes their body so it is not as noticeable to them.

This definitely causes poorer gas mileage and can cause a slinky effect on the road. Someone way to the rear of the slinky all of a sudden has the person in front of them really lock it up and then you have an accident.

This is really part of the case for cars to be electronically spaced on the freeway to maximize the number of cars and to eliminate this little driver issue.

I have driven cars at high speeds on the race track and it is actually much easier to drive around people that are pushing cars to their limits. The constant surging and unpredictable driving are not much fun and make me more nervous than when I'm racing.

  9. Im with you on this one. I cant stand it either. I always thought they just werent concentrating on driving. But they simply dont know how to drive!

  10. People who do that have no speed regulation to a given speed or relative to vehicles around them. In other cases they drive too closely to the vehicle in front of them.

I guess you could say they don't know how to drive. It costs them money and aggravates everyone else. Brake pads cost money to replace and usually require new rotors too especially due to the added heat of using brakes unnecessarily. Also, there is more gas used up in the process.
