  1. natural selection is the survival of the fittest.  Humans think that we can fix everything.  Some see it as harsh but animals will abandon their young if they know they can;t survive on their own.  They will only drain resources and make the rest of the herd weaker.  It is all about propagating the species.  But we want to make everyone live long and happy lives.  Truth is, some gene pools should have dried up long ago.  Tell me you've never seen a family and been sad that they had kids.  Anyway, natural selection is feared because it would mean that we are not in control and that we can;t beat nature; that eventually the strongest will survive and the weak ones will be left to die.

  2. Because the truth sometimes hurts, or is threatening. Religious types think that evolution denies not only creationism (which it does) but also the existence of the soul (not necessarily so) and of an afterlife (open question). I was flabbergasted to see in the Republican debate earlier this year that only three candidates admitted to believing in evolution. Nature help us if any of them ends up getting elected -- !

  3. People threatened by natural selection are probably those most likely to be selected against.

  4. Because all the ugly people who can't get dates, are afraid that their genetic lineage will come to an end...

The beautiful people could care less about Natural Selection because they're riding the crest of a perfect wave...
