Why do some people go through hardship and become bitter, and others go through hardship and become thankful?

Or in some cases, the thankful people have been through a lot worse than the bitter people.

I think that its down to approach to life , if you have a positive can do approach most people will learn from hardship even if it is prolonged, but if you have a negative approach to life, envious of others, then bitterness can stop you see a way out of hardship it can even lead one into a situation where wallowing in adversity seems a positive thing

For the same reason some people vacation at the beach and others go to the mountains.  Personal preferrence, and temperament type.  Bitter people often look for an external process to explain why a thing happened or what happened.  Others know that life is not fair, and have the disposition to move on, even from terrible handicaps.  I suppose it is the basic meaning of life question...I   or   We.

Some people get through it like  it was a valuable lesson learned and some hate the thought of ever having to be tested. It's being selfish, almost like they're saying 'Why did it have to be me?" In my opinion if there was something gained from it, then it was completely worth it.

I think it has everything to do with a person's inate personality and outlook on life.  Some people tend to be positive, seeing the best in every situation, while others see the worst and tend to be gloomy, negative people.  So, when something bad happens, the positive person looks hard for some good to come out of the experience.  A negative person, on the other hand, will see a bad experience as one more bad thing to happen in his life, proving again that life is not fair.

I think inate personality types tend to drive people to one political outlook over another.  People who see themselves as victims who can't make it on their own will vote for someone who promises to take care of them and punish the powerful and rich.   People who are positive and self-confident, see that of course success will come if they just work hard, and tend to reject those who propose a caretaker society.

There have been a number of studies that indicate basic personality may be inherited.  Every mother of more than one child will agree that kids seem to be born with their basic personalities.

I think it really depends on the person. Because if you think about it if they where to put 10 people in the same situation and all of them make a mistake most likely some of them are not going to learn from their mistake but then again the other half will learn the bad and not do it again. Their for When people go through hardship and become bitter is because of lack they have inside them and not knowing how to control their way of thinking and are immature. But when the other half go through hardship and are thankful are the ones who realize that  living is a gift and are thankful and happy in life.

Some people actually learned something after going through the hardship and are thankful for the lesson and know how to prevent it from happening again.  Others never learned anything from the hardships and since they haven't are doomed to go through them over and over again and that's what brings out the bitterness. Gee I'm so profound sometimes that I think I should write fortunes for fortune cookies. LOL

i think because those people never had God in their life, or anyone to tell them that there is a better way, and things will work out eventually. I know that i would have been bitter too if i didnt have a support system to keep me grounded.

if you were ever bullied at school, you can get very bitter, however, if you have hardships somewhere else, then you can be thankful you were never bullied
