Hispanic is not a race and being a Latino does not dictate your racial makeup. You can be a white Hispanic, a black Hispanic, Asian Hispanic, etc. Even though people associate a certain look/phenotype to being Hispanic...Latinos come in all colors/shades so that is an inaccurate why to ID someone. I find that people look bewildered when a person who "appears" black speaks Spanish or identifies as Latino. It happens sometimes when someone who "appears" white ID's as Latino also, but more often when the person is of African descent but Hispanic. What are your thoughts? My family is descended from Costa Rica and people seem confused or disbelieving when they know this because I am black. Someone actually said " I didnt know CR had any black people". Um ok lol
