Why do some people have smelly mouths?

Sometimes when ones speaks to someone, the person`s mouth gives out bad smell but hardly does this person knows this. How can one know that he is a victim? What causes this? And are there cures?

Gingivitis-mouthwash, brushing and don't forget to floss can help with it. Also I've noticed temporary crowns kind of smell, I am so glad I got my permanents now.

Often times it is hard to tell if you, yourself, have bad breath.

Two common causes are increased acid levels in the stomach and bacteria in the mouth.  If you control your acid levels and brush your tongue at least twice a day, you may be able to control any bad breath.

If this doesn't work, you could have an infection.  Sinus infections, infections of the mouth, etc. can cause horrible breath.  The person involved should get it checked by a doctor.

more then likely they have periodontal disease-They need to see a dentist- many times this can be reversed before they suffer tooth loss etc.-they are probably so used to the smell that they don't realize it.

You can know if you are a victim or not by asking a close friend-for an honest opinion

There are many reason.

The most obvious one is bad personal hygene.  The person doesn't brush his teeth. The germs in his mouth start to digest the food left between his teeth, and they give of sulfide gases.  The person's breath smells like a f-rt!

Coffee and cigarettes often cause bad breath, but again, that's bad personal hygene.  Brush your teeth and tongue.

Problem in the nose can cause it -- like post nasal drip, or a bad cold. Problem will go away when the problem is taken care of.  Tonsilitis can cause it, too.

Food in the stomach can cause it because of belching or burping.

Some diseases, like kidney disease, can cause it.  In the case of kidney disease the person breath will smell like urine.  There is a disease called ketoacidosis, and one of the symptoms of this is breath that smell like almonds.

Obviously, the cure depends on teh casue -- improve your hygene, change your diet, get a physical.

But the odd thing is, most people can't smell their own breath, so they need to depend on a really close friend to tell them when they have a problem.
