Yeah, I know some men having mowing businessess and some people don't look down at them, but as a whole I see more women mowing yards than men and if you see a man doing it then you hear some people say he must be a stay at home dad! Why did things change so much and why can't do the jobs that they once did? Is it because of feminists or the women's right's movement?

  1. Who says they can't? Maybe they just choose not to. Why shouldn't women mow the lawn once in a while?

  2. WTF? we can't even mow the grass? YIPPEEE !!! I LIKE IT!!!!  Hurah, for feminists!!

  3. Are u serious?...I haven't heard such a silly thing before.

  4. I've never seen a woman mowing the lawn. Ever!

  5. Where I live mostly men mow the lawn. Not sure what you are talking about.

  6. I suppose it all depends on whether his neighbors are in two story houses.

  7. Really?  In the neighborhood I grew up in (and this wasn't THAT long ago!) it was a huge competition to see who could have the nicest lawn.  This must be a "depends where you are" thing because I have never heard anyone comment that a man mowing the grass must be a house husband.

My mom only mowed the lawn sometimes because my dad had a really bad back and couldn't always do it.  (As I got older, it became my job to do it actually.)

  8. That must be something unique to where you live. I've never heard anyone criticize a man for mowing the lawn. I would love it if my husband would get off his lazy *** and mow the lawn once in awhile!

  9. Where I live, that would be a man's job. I don't care if you think that's sexist, in most households, men do that.

  10. As far as I know, mowing the lawn is a traditionally male thing.  Not that it's all that difficult.  Especially if you have a riding mower.

  11. I think girls mowing the lawn is embarrassing. You know what- I like mowing the lawn and I like my wife making sandwiches. And you know what else? I'm way tougher than my wife and she cleans way better than I do. And you know what else? She is now realizing that there is nothing wrong with chivalry and nothing wrong with manly jobs and womanly jobs. Its what makes a rock solid marriage. Rather than fighting over every t*t and f'n tat. WASTE OF LIFE. Though it is a part of life I suppose.

  12. Maybe cuz everyone else in Malibu can afford their own gardener ? Maybe those are single women.

  13. My neighborhood consists of lots from 1-5 acres.  I've seen  able bodies of every gender, age and size out there mowing grass, particularly after a couple days of heavy rain.

Besides, with a riding mower, what's the big deal ?- you just have to be 100 pounds to keep the engine running (there is a tip-over safety feature connected to the seat).

  14. A woman shouldnt be mowing the lawn. Its a physically risky job. Thats why we have men who can get a bruise and a couple cuts and some sh^t stuck in his eye, and grease all over him, and sweat...thats what men are FOR.

  15. What?  Nobody looks down on men for doing yardwork.  Mowing the lawn is stereotyped as a man's job anyway.  I don't know where you live, but I've never seen or heard anyone look down on a man for mowing the lawn.

  16. My husband used to mow the lawn while he was in law school.   Once he graduated and got a job - he hired a service.   Did not blame him a bit.   Here on the mountain my neighbor does mine.   He has a rider and honestly loves to use it.

Edit: I remember one of Roseanne's comedy routines was about her husband mowing the lawn vs her using the vac.  She said once they developed a riding vac she wouldn't have a problem.

  17. hahah i don't know where you live but i can honestly say i have never ever seen a woman mowing the lawn. only men & everyone is perfectly fine with men mowing the lawn

  18. Where you do live? I have never seen what you are claiming, namely I am familiar with the precise opposite.

As a whole, I see many more men mowing yards than women, and I've never heard anyone claim that he must be a stay at home dad.

If we had a yard, I would much rather I mow it than my fiancee, because she doesn't know jack about lawn care and would do a S****y job.

For the record, neither of my parents mowed our lawn, they hired a gardener to do it. My father doesn't even know how to change the oil on their cars.

  19. Since when did anyone look down upon a man who does chores that are stereotyped as a mans job in the household?

I think you have it backwards, because men who can't do things like change the oil in their car are looked down upon..............................

  20. I have literally never seen or heard of this, and everyone I've seen mowing a lawn on TV (programs, films or adverts) have been male. No, wait - I can think off-hand of two exceptions. Mowing the lawn is something you do (or bribe your children to do) on Sundays. I doubt feminism has anything to do with this, and this hasn't happened in the UK, at least the bits I've lived in.

  21. Women mow yards?  Where?  Honestly, I almost never see this.  I'd say easily 95% of all mowers I've ever seen are men, if not more, and usually it's the man who owns the house and yard doing it.  One of us lives in a strange area.

Obviously, since it's mostly men here who mow their own yards, nobody's criticizing them.

  22. I think it has to more with nosy neighbors, and nosy people in general.  Who cares if the woman or the man are mowing the lawn, as long as they are sharing responsibilities and not bothering anybody, why say anything at all.

  23. I've never heard anything of this sort in my life, to be honest.

FTR, I was under the impression that lawnmowers, chainsaws, power tools, etc. fell under the stereotypically "manly" category, and taking care of your lawn is supposed to be one of those "guy" things, which is why most ads for lawn feed are geared towards men.

  24. Where do you live?   I mean, I know Pittsburgh is pretty far behind the times, but that's not how it is here.  Admittedly, plenty of women in my neighborhood mow their yards - there are also plenty of push movers and electric mowers.  But nobody really pays much attention to who's behind the mower.

My husband mows our front yard, then edges it while I mow the back.  He then edges the back while I weed the flower beds.  It works well for us.
