Why do some people only respond to conflict?

there have been people that i've dated that will not say a word or speak constructively about anything if you talk to them in a mild reasonable positive way, but as soon as you get combative they will go all night with dialogue. why do these people only respond to the negative and not nurturing grownup conversations? it's very strange to me, please enlighten or give your thoughts.....

its the nature of some who are seemingly reserved and have a lot of repressed energy and personality. You have to hit them hard in a concvrsation to get them going. they often do not reaize this pattern in themselves so do not take offense. It is also a habit that is cultivated over time from negative experiences that causes 'abnormal' social skills.

its society as a whole that has become increasingly negative. dont fall into it. stay positive and surrond your self with positive people. they are out there!
