  1. It is a hoax u got that right. The green house gas that was to caused it is not there. They say that the CO2 is about 300 ppm. but what percent of our atmosphere is it. Now the hard math as it is only .000,3%which is nothing. The methane just find it U can not, because it is not there. If the green house gas is not there how can it cause GW.

  2. It's like denying an addiction, really--if you notice, that's technically what these people who say it's a hoax are doing.  They don't want to change their lifestyle to help their situation because they're just stuck in a rut, thinking it's better for them when in reality, it's killing them.

Usually, I find it's people of conservative religious backgrounds who say it's a hoax, but my guess on that is because they think the world will end soon anyway and don't care. It's no excuse whatsoever, as they're guilty as sin (pun intended.)

  3. Some are honestly mistaken.  Others are conspiracy theorists who think everything is a conspiracy.

Many are Conservatives who take politics to great lengths.  If environmentalists, liberals, or worst, Al Gore say something it MUST be wrong, no matter how many scientists are saying it.

Thoughtful Conservatives are annoyed that this gives Conservatives a reputation for not acknowledging reality.  For example:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

  4. I just don't think man made global warming is true because I have trouble believing CO2 is an actual greenhouse gas. In the past, 100% of the time, temperature undeniably - fact - leads CO2 by 600-800 years. I don't know if either the c or the o or the 2 can be a possible greenhouse gas. However I am now shocked. The new alternative energy: Water...(Hydrogen, water vapor) a TRUE greenhouse gas more powerful than any other. This will cause man made global warming and this will destroy our earth if it is our official new alternative energy source.

  5. Here is my answer from another post. I will try and relink the sites as the cut and paste wipes most of the link out.

Sure, there is currently no evidence that man has made any significant contribution to climate change.

    Some interesting facts.

    1. During most of the past 2,000 years, the temp has been about the same or higher. Currently, we are barely over the average for the last 2,000 years.

    2. During the medieval warm period (820 – 1040 AD), Greenland supported farming. Those areas previously farmed are now covered in glaciers. Obviously the melting and reformation of glaciers is a cyclical occurrence.

    3. The earth experienced a little ice age which ended around the late 1860's or so. This is about the time man started recording temperatures. This would be like measuring a lake depth after a severe drought, then worrying about it flooding as it rose to normal levels.

    4. The earth has been warming for the last 10,000 years, since the last major glacier time period. Also, for most of the last 1 billion years, the earth had NO glaciers or ice coverage.

    5. The AGW theory states that CO2 is the primary driver of temperature. They arrived at this idea because they did not know of anything else which could cause it. But during the 70's and during the current decade, temperatures dropped while CO2 continued to rise. This means that natural occurrences are driving temp, not CO2.

    6. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation and sun spots provides a much better correlation to earths' temperature than CO2 levels ever have.

    7. Polar Bears are experiencing a population boom. Coke sales in the arctics are through the roof. Polar Bears have been around for thousands of years, and remember, we are only at the average for the last 2,000 years. They lived through all the previously warmer climates.

    8. The glaciers have been melting now for over 10,000 years. the current rate of melting is similar to previous melting.

    9. There is no consensus on AGW. This was a lie that has been propagated by the media.

    10. Yes we emit CO2 into the atmosphere and it is a greenhouse gas, but, we only contribute about .28% of all the greenhouse effect. Water vapor makes up about 95% of the greenhouse effect. CO2 and other trace gases round out the greenhouse gases at about 5% for all of them. Of that 5%, only 3% is CO2, and most of that is natural. Again, our contribution to the greenhouse effect is a paltry .28%

    11. The spread of disease is not attributed mainly to temperature. If this were the case, Florida would be a giant festering disease ridden cesspool. Economic standing is the primary determining factor in the spread of disease. Poor cultures can not fight the disease or eradicate the pests like more successful nations.

    12. Natural climate disasters (hurricanes, cyclones, etc) have never been scientifically linked to global warming (whether natural or man made).

This is what I came up with on another post off the top of my head. There is vast quantities of studies refuting man's causing any significant warming.

JOHNNIE B - CO2 is a greenhouse gas. That is scientifically shown to be true. Here is a great site which explains it. Of course, our contribution to the greenhouse effect is only about .28%. The entire report is very informative, but on page 22, it goes through the CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

  6. Because every five to ten years someone invents a scare that if we all pony up tons of money we can solve it.  I've seen ideas that are downright dangerous in this global warming myth, I'm seeing dangerous patterns of thought, I'm seeing otherwise highly intelligent people developing strange superstitions.

I read (skimmed through) Al Gore's book Inconvenient Truth and  I have to say, some of his ideas are not relevant.  My favorite is, "Use air travel less."  Sure Mr. Gore, you first..

Telecommute from home.  Sorry, my job requires that I be at the work place.

    Use public transportation.

Can't, busses don't run in the area I work.

And some well meaning souls have shot down a local bus network.  One sweet li'l thing said she didn't want "big smelly busses."  Okay, but one big smelly bus takes the place of 30-40 cars.  See the disconnect between wanting clean air and reducing fuel consumption?

In the 1970's it was global cooling and we were headed for an ice age, this went on for almost 15-20 years.

Then it was acid rain, then it was holes in the ozone, which apparently have healed on their own.

Then we had Y2K, and when the clocks hit 12:00 year 2000 the power grid was supposed to collapse and we'd all be living in a pre-industrial society and everyone from secular to religious leaders were out furiously writing books about the "Y2K" crisis and how bad and different everything is going to be.  A lot of people spent a lot of money buying survival supplies that later turned out, they didn't need.  All that hype for nothing.

Then somewhere in there was the color-coded and rather vague terrorist alerts which came so frequently people stopped noticing them.

Now this.  Here we are with a new scare, the problem is no one knows what to call it.  It's been a cooler than normal May this year, this is called Global Warming.  We get some snow, not unusual, in October, that's now global cooling.  Then we get rain at the end of February, yep, "climate change."   There's a disconnect here.  Then it's back to global warming when we get a week's worth of mild temperatures in January and the first questions asked is, "Is this it?  This is global warming, and now the seas are going to rise 200 feet and we're all gonna die!"  Except that for the last forty some years, we've always had the January Thaw.

Which is another sore point in all this, is all the misinformation such as that big ice floe that broke off the Antarctic Ice shelf.  There was talk of the global warming once again, except that it was the end of summer there.  And there's talk that if the ice caps melt, the seas will rise 20 to 200 feet or more flooding out coastal lands.  Wrong!  The ice that sits in the water floats 70% of its bulk underwater.  The water has already been displaced.

I'm perfectly willing to help the environment, but forget the lies.  I also find the whole bit with "carbon credits" and "carbon offset taxes."  (key word)  Again, spend, or this time, extort more money from people.  There is no governing body for carbon credits and reading it reads like a new tax code, probably because that's exactly what it is.

Sure, let's recycle.  Let's use electric cars, but remember too, where does electricity come from?  For some of you, coal fired power plants which Barack  Obama wants to-- here comes the magic word, tax.  And he admits the tax will be designed to be almost unaffordable.  And in these times, another tax designed to suck money from people is not a good thing.

  7. It's not a hoax...whats a hoax is that it's man made and we can stop it.

  8. Because it is. You should try to see the opposing view to global warming. This is a good website.

  9. That's a good question.  I think there are number of answers.

    1. People are uneducated in science.  Unfortunately, this is true of the vast majority of people.  Ask most people details about any area of science and you'll find this out.  How can they have informed opinions about subjects of which they know nothing?

    2. They're illogical.  They're the ones that say stuff like "If carbon dioxide is only 380 parts per million in air how can it have any effect?"  If they actually thought this through, they'd realize it's a completely stupid argument. Let's think about some other small quantity, like how many Anthrax cells it takes to kill you--it takes something like one cell per hundred billion human cells to cause an infection that will kill you. You need to know not just the number, but the effect that that number can have.  These same people jump on the fact that in past warmings the temperature increase may have led the CO2 increase, like this disproves that CO2 causes warming--it disproves no such thing, it just shows that the solubility of CO2 in seawater goes down with increasing temperature, which only compounds the problem. (Admittedly, Al Gore may have confused the issue on this one.)

    3. It's easier not to think about it.  Frankly, I'm in the business of weather but I'd rather not think about global warming.  It doesn't interest me that much, but unfortunately it's overwhelmingly important. So I'm not surprised that many people just ignore it and write it off as some scientist/government conspiracy, then they can go on living their consumptive ways and not worrying about things.

    4. They don't like the messenger. While I applaud Al Gore for his efforts, there are many people that would not believe him if he said the Earth is round and the sun rises every day.  My mom is like that, she thinks if Al Gore says it it must be wrong.  My answer is then don't listen to Al Gore, listen to the IPCC and other scientists (and not just the very few that don't believe it).

    5. Some are just idiots trying to bait people.  I think a lot of the ones on here are like that.

  10. I think it is ridiculous people think it is a hoax- There is so much evidence for it, like how extreme weather recorded over the years (a direct result of more CO2 thus more warming in the atmosphere) moves up and down with varying levels of emissions from cars, houses and factories.

My stepdad doesn't believe in it for these reasons; he said that in the seventies the scientific community was telling everyone how we were entering a new ice age, but then that turned out to be incorrect, and nothing ever came from that theory- He thinks it will be the same way with what he calls "supposed" global warming. He also loves to say how it's probably a conspiracy for politicians to get votes and get people to be environmentally friendly on false pretences. In addition he says that if the climate is indeed changing, we did not cause it, but rather it is a natural climate change. He thinks people are "too small" to effect the earth on a global scale. That’s his small-town perspective anyway…

I personally think he doesn’t believe in it because he is older and frankly, whatever happens to our environment in the future isn’t going to affect him directly. He also may not want to take responsibility for the state of the earth, or is unable to admit we, as a species, are infectious.

  11. The same reason I get thumbs down everytime I mention being a climatology student. They don't want to accept responsibility.

  12. Some people will believe what others tell them and stick to those beliefs. They are not willing to accept responsibility for a problem they helped to create. Also, because global warming involves the whole planet, some people cannot wrap there minds around the idea that people can in any way affect such a large object.

  13. That's the million dollar question, isn't it?

I can accept the skeptic's POV.  It's the hoax folks who leave me scratching my head.

We haven't had a good conspiracy theory in awhile, so maybe it's just an itch you gotta scratch once in a while.

  14. Because there is a wealth of evidence that it is a hoax.

Along with the fact that most leading climatologists and meterologists say it is a hoax.

  15. because they don't care anything but they self.

because they don't know the consequences of global warming.

because they are spoiled people and ego and they just know how happy their life is without see the other world part.

because they never read a paper.

because they never satisfy to intervention with our mother nature.

because they doesn't belief in God existence.

  16. Mostly because they are afraid of the truth or just plain stupid and ignorant.

  17. some people are stupid

until something bad happen to them they are going to worry

    global warming a hoax?

totally wrong if you say it's fake and i saw other say it's fake prove everything that is happening if it is not caused by global warming it's because you can't.  if you do you're reasons are fake and untrue.  Being ignorant in the world is not going to help.

    changes in the world

    bees dying

    climate changes

    ozone layer depleting

    coral reefs dying

    more prone to diseases

    more hurricanes

if you can't prove what is the cause stop saying global warming is a hoax.
