What are some reasons for kids not liking school, besides the typical laziness (which we we're all guilty of at some point) I want to know reasons that go beyond that

  1. I also believe this, but I only hear it in regards to college. Many people do not have much faith in the education system and the curriculum required at institutes of higher learning. Much of which has no application to what a person ultimately wants to do with their lives. Having at this point in my life earned a master's degree, this is a legitimate issue.

School doesn't teach you how to be successful. Most people go with the idea of wanting to be successful. Therefore, for many school is not for them. Much of the experience is a waste of time academically and is not an indicator of intelligence or how much knowledge someone has.

Having hired and fired people, some of the most incapable I have personally experience have been 3 point something GPA Ivy League graduates.

  2. Im thinking it has something to do with.................. some people would rather work hands on than sit and learn and for some it is the only way to learn, some people may find it hard to sit all day and listen to boring info that they are not interested in, especially if they are hyper active or dont have the attention span.

and for some people school may not be for them cause of all the studies and the stress of it.

  3. Because school isn't for everyone.

It's designed for the lowest common denominator.  It's more to socialize you than to really educate you as a full person (for the most part -- there are exceptional schools.)

We really need more educational options all around. Like in some cities such as NYC, they have specialty high schools which each focus on a different vocation. Self-study may be good for some students too, if they're really motivated.

  4. It is a polite way of saying that some people are too stupid to learn beyond a certain level.

Hey, the world needs janitors and burger flippers too.

  5. Formal education is designed for LEFT brained individals to succeed in... In short, people who are logical, systematical, look at things as a lot of different parts and connect them all to make sense of them, can remember names better than faces, etc. generally do better in today's education system.

The others simply cannot adapt to these styles of learning are more suitable are artists or some sort... which is often not as appriciated in our society as it should be.

The rest are simply side-tracked by bad influences from friends/media/family situation and such.

  6. For one thing, modern education was designed by early 20th century industrialists to produce managers and engineers.

Have you ever thought about how silly it is to get an "A" in dance?

It is a system designed by and for highly logical, test-taking minds to impart a massive amount of knowledge, originally about math and science, and now about a wide breadth of subjects. There is no emphasis on specialization, on the individual, or on honing any particular talent.

So, no, it's not for everyone, speaking in the strictest sense.

Also, we -do- still need people to work in the salt mines. : P

  7. Because school is not designed to educate, but to dumb us down and to make sure that we're not "individuals".

If you can memorize info then school is for you.

If you're a free-thinker then school is not for you.

  8. because school is fun if you're a nerd. but if you're cool, school is not exactly the best thing of the day
