Why do some people say "bless you" when somebody sneezes but never when someone coughs?

ok, occasionally i hear an old lady say "god bless you" when someone coughs...but still! why do people even say it?

  1. Maybe it sounds better after someone sneezes rather than when someone coughs


  2. People used to say it because they thought sneezing was how evil demons escaped your body, saying 'bless you'.... blessed you

  3. i say  bless you when somebody sneezes coughs and burpes...

  4. Because sneezes are from the devil.

    Coughs just irritants and allergies...duh.

  5. back then people thought that sneezing actually meant that the devil was trying to enter your body so they would say god bless you so that he can leave

    now its just kind of tradition i guess we are all just use to saying that

  6. Some people in society dont really even say it when people sneeze i guess some think its a waste of time since its came out during midevil times.  When you sneeze the devil supposingly goes through you.
