Why do some people say the grand canyon is in colorado?

im no genius but i believe it is in arizona....correct?

  1. Sheer ignorance.  Now you can tell them that they are wrong and prove how much smarter you are.  The Grand Canyon lies entirely within the state of Arizona in the northwest corner of the state near the Nevada border.  This is significantly southwest of Colorado.


  2. It is in Arizona, but the Colorado river flows through it.

They are just confused.  The canyon in Colorado they are referring to is actually "The Black Canyon of the Gunnison"  and it is in a National Park and often compared to the Grand Canyon.  It is  not as deep, but it is very steep and rugged and I have heard it called the Grand Canyon of the Gunnison before.  As huge as it is, it isn't near the scale of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.  Great place to visit though.  I did not go to the bottom, but did hike some trail in and it is worth the effort.
