Why do some people talk about race?

Seriously, why do some people, especially older people, always talk about race issues? Its 2008, and people are still bring up race.

Ok, I'm black and I'm not racist. But my parents are always talking about race when we're going out. They're always saying the whites are trying to keep other groups down, they're afraid of blacks, and all this other BS. Which I don't understand about these older people, and its always people of my race.

Which is why I don't want kids and I prefer to date interracially so I don't have to hear that c**p constantly, if there are any good women out there.

  1. Understand that older people have a very different life experience than you do and that sometimes certain prejudices can get locked into their consciousness.

  2. Even though we have come a long way, there still are racial issues and probably always will be. However, although we shouldn't ignore them, they shouldn't be our topic every night over dinner, either. I think your parents and lots of other people should appreciate the amazing changes that have occurred, rather than dwelling on those who are stuck in the past. But don't let that stop you from having kids, seriously. Times are changing, and your kids probably won't have to deal with all that you or your parents have to deal with, you know?

  3. differs from generation to generation. the older gen. tend to be that way (from what i noticed). younger gens. are more open to diversity in races.

  4. My friend's parents didn't attend his wedding because he married someone of a different race (he's chinese, his wife is half black and half italian).  It's really sad.  But they're happy together and I guess that's all that matters.

  5. Ask all those white women, they will tell you everything.

    Good luck.

  6. you dont know what they went through when they were your age...don't get me wrong people change, but then again majority of people don't

  7. Maybe because racism still exist, said to say but true.
