Question:

Why do some people think Y!A is a blog?

Some people are just ranting. They don't answer the question. And some people attack others' answers.

Why do you think there are so many ignorant people here who don't understand what this site is all about?

  1. I actually left the Adoption section for awhile because of the same things you refer to in your question.  I believe that as a group, we need to report those who abuse the forum.  I am not out to get anyone in trouble, but if we consistently as a group report those who abuse this section, we can clean it up for those who have real questions and knowledge to share with others.

  2. Mostly, I just think it is a reflection of a broad spectrum of society, that a lot of people really are that naive, or unaware or simplistic,  just look at popular culture, and some of the pablam that is generally embraced.

Other times, I get concerned, some people have posted really loopy, aggressive, hysterical sounding questions, and  shrieking like a mad woman that they are happy, when they are clearly disturbed is not too convincing, but what really upsets me is when these same answerers claim to be the mothers of children, adopted or otherwise, because I can't help but think, who is minding the children when "mommy" is going nutso on Y!A?

Plus if "mommy" is nutting up over what is on Y!A, if she is triggered into a tailspin so easily, what about real life stressors?

Am I under some kind of citizen's responsibility to give her resources/get her help?

What is she just seems so free-swinging hostile, that she has no capacity to listen anyway?

It makes me feel helpless and sad for the children trapped in that house...

All I can do is pray for the individual's healing and know that God is more powerful than all her troubles and hope he sets her heart and mind to right, that she is able to "get a grip" and be able to nurture the charges entrusted to her.

  3. You're just as bad, but if this helps with your healing then I pray you find it.

  4. Because they have nothing else to do

  5. I agree I can't stand totally ignorant people.

    To the *top* ignorant person:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

And this isn't to the person who wrote the above question...to someone who answered it.

  6. I think some people (not all by any means, but a few) are actually here hoping to stumble across pregnant women considering adoption so that they can solicit them for their babies. And I think those people are irritated that some of us first moms and adoptees have come here and started championing family preservation to pregnant women, because it interferes with their plans of soliciting a baby.

Others? I think others are very emotionally invested in believing adoption is 99% happiness and light, for various reasons. It's a defense mechanism, for these people, to fight HARD against the darker side of adoption.

Again: I don't think all YA answerers fit into these categories, by any means. And I don't think everyone who disagrees with me about adoption reform, the dark side, and so on even fits into these categories. Some people just disagree and are civil about it, and that's fine.

But the ranters? I think they fit into one of the two above categories.

  7. I recently have stayed away from this category for that very reason.  My good experience doesn't seem to be valued on here and I've noticed others, with solid advice from all perspectives, have left as well.  It's down to the handful that want to rant. Too much drama.

Until YA creates at "bad adoption experience" category I'm done.
