  1. "Take up your cross and follow Me"

Jesus didn't promise a rose garden, following Him would not necessarily be easy or comfortable.

But He does listen to prayer and a devout sincere prayer, prayed in the way Jesus instructed, is ALWAYS answered, even though it may not be immediately obvious. No sincere, devout prayer is ever wasted, God will make use of it all for our benefit in the long run.

Prayer is not always answered in the way we expect or understand because God can see the whole picture, and what we want is not necessarily what is best for us.

Remember that to God even death is not a disaster, it is not the end of everything. In the right circumstances it can even be the best outcome for a particular person, because they can leave this vale of tears and suffering to go to a much better place. So it is not the end, but a new and better beginning.

The first priority of God, for those who pray for help, is to help them spiritually in order to assist their salvation. Material needs are certainly not ignored, but they can sometimes look as if they are being ignored because in the context of eternity, they may have to take second place to spiritual needs which count so much more in the long run.

  2. Well, now. I see that you are a good little xian robot citizen. Spouting only what you've been programmed to say. If I went off text about now you would lose it. lol Duh! I can't stand smug, smart@$$ comments from non compassionate people. You need a paddling. Or your tongue split.

  3. Christianity is wrong because people like you represent it.

  4. I thought it was more like 1% collected 99%

When you build your house 30 feet below sea level right next to hurricane alley, which should you expect?

  5. Because people use God as an excuse for all their problems. Got a problem? Blame it on God! It's always his fault you can't move out of your sodding house so that you don't get blasted by torrential rainfall.

Or, people seem to have this halfhearted belief that God will 'save' them. Hello, it's a hurricane, not a pack of demons! If God didn't prevent both World Wars, the Depression, the Black Plague, the Crusades, and any other event that led to massive human death, why do people think that praying to God will stop a hurricane? Give me a break!

  6. god did kill alot of people in the OT and god did create the people who created crusades and inquisitions soooo iono its a toughy

  7. well... 1 those ppl who think that obviously dont even understand the religion i've met ppl who prolly never read the bible claiming it's not for them or w/e how can u know whenn ur not even open enough to understand what's written.

2 ppl dont really choose to see the good things that god does or the good things that's arround them so they choose to critisize god.

3 they dont understand that god isnt actually the one who's doing this to them but their own choices and some bad luck.

personally i think every one should take time to understand it. it's a beautiful realigion :)

  8. or maybe cause God doesn't deal with our petty problems... Maybe we get the freedom to make our own decisions and our own paths

  9. they obviously dont understand THE WORLD DOESNT REVOLVE AROUND THEM..  God does whats BEST for everyone!!

  10. "Living in New Orleans is optional, isn't it?" no living in New Orleans is NOT optional for some people, did it ever occur to you that some people can't afford to just move away from somewhere? And yes EVOLUTION gave us a brain you're creationism BS is just that BS but as stated above some people can't afford to move and if you think that it's just so easy for someone to up and move well why don't you go down to New Orleans and tell the people that live there that?

PS: Also why is it that you people are constantly blaming NATURAL occurrences on supernatural things like god,Satan,etc... I am a Wiccan and pretty superstitious but even I don't blame every tiny thing on the supernatural, I mean really it's a d**n hurricane OK god doesn't cause them and Satan doesn't cause them they are a natural occurrence so stop trying to blame every thing on Satan or use the excuse "god is trying to teach us a lesson" OK I want to know something about that last one why would god want to teach millions of people the same lesson?

  11. It rains on the just and the unjust.

"......so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."

    Matthew 5:45 New Testament

  12. Why should God get credit for good things, but not bad things, when as Creator, he's ultimately responsible? ESPECIALLY for natural occurrences that are beyond human control.

Fine. Living in New Orleans is optional. Birth defects aren't optional. SIDS isn't optional. Most types of cancer aren't optional. Malaria isn't optional in most countries(thank you, God, for creating the mosquito).

Go tell my brother with type one diabeties(that's the childhood kind that you get spontaniously), or my cousin with MS that they're like that because of their own stupidity. I warn you, though, my cousin is wheelchair bound, but my brother is still healthy enough and large enough to snap your neck.

Should humans be held responsible for God's stupidity? Or, is he just cruel?

    I have a more reasonable notion, though . . . he's made up.

  13. Good point.

However, you still have to be VERY careful there isn't a double standard in place. For example, I've heard that sports teams in the United States often give thanks to God after winning a game. But it seems to me that if God can't even be bothered to stop a hurricane that might kill thousands of people, would he really still decide to micromanage a few dozen people in a stadium just to make one team beat the other? It doesn't make any sense. Or what about when someone gives thanks to God after winning the lottery? Or after their relative survives an operation to remove cancer? Same deal. If God was going to interfere with our universe at all, he would at least START with the hurricanes, and only move on to the lotteries and sports games and surgical operations after all the hurricanes had been accounted for. Claiming that God constantly micromanages the world but refuses to macromanage it is just setting a double standard. Besides, no scientific evidence has been found that God interferes at all in the first place.

  14. I think Christianity is wrong because it's been scientifically disproven.

I don't really care much more about it after that.

  15. Christianity is not wrong. I personally dont think anyone is wrong because I dont think anyone knows. Those questions you speak of stem from ignorance.

  16. I think Christianity is "wrong" because there is absolutely no proof of the Christian god.

  17. Well your God must be quite an evil b*****d to keep killing people with those hurricanes.

Or is he just so weak he can't stop them?

  18. It is the problem of evil and the problem of suffering. Living in New Orleans is not optional for children, for example, so this poses a problem. Why would a supposedly all powerful and good God cause/allow people to suffer for things beyond their control?

Do you know any place in the country that isn't susceptible to natural disasters? You can rule out the south east becauseof hurricanes, the midwest because of tornados, the west because of earthquakes, the north because of blizzards...

Gods should be held responsible for the consequences of his actions of inactions. One of those consequences is causing/allowing innocent people to suffer.

"Did you know that 10% of the people of the US collect 95% of all FEMA funds." Honestly I am suprised it is as high as 10%. Those funds are to help in the event of a disaster. Typically only a small fraction of the population will be affected by major disasters, so it makes sense that only a fraction of the population receive FEMA funds. If 95% of the population required FEMA funds, the country would have long since collapsed.

So, short answer is yes, natural disasters pose an enormous logical problem for belief in a omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent God.

  19. "Nobama," huh?

Did you think that one up all by yourself? Sounds like classic Rush Limbaugh to me.

  20. christianity is awesome

  21. What annoys people is that Christians expect everyone to praise god for every good thing that happens, but every bad thing is blamed upon the devil. That degree of gullibility is sure to attract attention.

  22. God has his own agenda, and it doesn't always intersect with what people want for themselves.

Yes, hurricanes are terrible. So are famines. Maybe God is testing us that way, and it's up to us to sort ourselves out. What's the old adage? God helps those who help themselves?

  23. As Fr Corapi is so fond of saying  "God put limits to our intelligence, but none whatsoever on our stupidity!"  Which is very, very true.  And what you said about the percentages, I'm not surprised.....

  24. Because they don't understand that Christianity never promised an end to pain and suffering here on earth...it only promises that it will end some day...when we join Jesus in heaven!  In fact, Jesus made it clear that we would continue to suffer here on earth even (or more accurately, especially) if we choose to follow him.

  25. There is nothing wrong with Christianity, there just isn't any proof that God exists.

  26. I don't necessarily think that Christianity is wrong, if that is what you choose to believe,  I do however wonder why if something bad happens it is "the devil" or "God works in mysterious ways" but if something good happens he gets all the credit.

  27. i think christianity is wrong for totally different reasons. ain't got nothing to do with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, or any other catastrophe. or human stupidity. interesting. wish i was one of the 10%.
