Why do some people think the world might end on December 12, 2012? I thought the date was December 21, 2012...

I have read about how some people think that December 12, 2012 has some significance. What do they base this on?

The majority of 2012 believers say that December 21st of that year will be the big day of transformation or something?

the people who say this claim that the ancient mayan calendar ends on 12 12 2012. but people who know anything know that this is in fact a misinterpretation of the mayan calendar. so, basically its only idiots who believe that.

They're backwards, it is 21, not 12. As many have studied the meaning of the sun disk, where the Mayan calendar comes from, they have found in it exists a pattern of cycles. From a beginning date of August 13, 3113 BC to the ending date of December 21, 2012 AD. In one of these cycles exists 13 Baktuns, one Baktun= 394 years, to equal one 5125 year cycle.

it is the 21.......i say it's a transformation cuase society has gotten really bad...it's time for a change...it will be a HUGE change though

Many prophecies say the world will end around this time. Many people claim it's a misinterpretation. If you believe then the actual date is the 21st, but through a miss type somewhere along the line it changed from 21 to 12. Simply a mistake of switching the numbers.

i believe dec 21 2012 b/c of the mayan calender abruptly ending on that day.they were extreamly accurate predicting events with that calender.strange that it just ends on that date.
