Why do some people wear burkha?

just curious on why people wear burkha, it is for religious reason? cultural? but why?

part of it is cultural and part of it is religious. a woman is commanded to be mindful of her modesty. as such, she is supposed to cover up parts of her body that are deemed sexually alluring. however, this doesn't necessarily mean she needs to cover her entire body.

the cultural part comes in because men are also commanded to respect a woman and be just as modest. they, however, do not cover up as much as a woman does (if at all). it's a social imbalance that is not found in the quran. it's something that has just been going on due to cultural tradition.

typically muslims where them and its because technically there supposed to have all there body covered except for the face and the hands and the clothes that they wear arent supposed to be tight or show off any curves

it religious to an extent in the fact that the body is supposed to be covered but in the middle east women are basically forced to wear them so its apart of culture there
