Its getting harder to get a job offer with companies even if you have a degree. What else do they want from an individual. Aren't skills, experience and education important for someone to land a great profession?

  1. It also depends on competition - some occupations have more people being trained then there are job openings.  Some folks don't interview well or don't care to interview well.  The economy is stagnant, lowering demand even further.  Some occupations are in decline, others are not growing.

These all impact on one's ability to find a job.

  2. "Profession" suggests to me very specific skills and education.

People with a liberal arts degree may have a broad education, but not specific skills and education towards a profession.

It may have been fun taking liberal arts courses, but they don't pay the rent.

  3. Depends on the field. Some fields are over saturated with new graduates. Other times the best businesses are just looking for people with experience. There are very few careers where you start off making top dollar. Usually you have to start a little low, get experience, and then get your good job after a while.

  4. Being a degree holder in our present generation is no longer special, therefore, for a graduate to achieve a career fulfilment he/she must add value{s} to his/her certificate by being creative and know how to exploit any available opportunity.

  5. Couple of different reasons. Some of my friends did because they got specific degrees and not many companies were hiring for those exact degrees....

It's hard out there, I know!

  6. depends on how you define career and great profession.  undergraduate degrees aren't worth what they used to be and even MBA and other graduate degrees have been devalued by a glut.  as more enter the workforce, the lower the value of each one - basic economics.  we're in a recession, too.  the big money-makers have dried up or had to shape up (stock market, real estate and other investments).  Last but definitely not least, the world will not beat a path to your door just because you graduated from college.  You need to get out there and meet people face to face.  Talk to your acquaintances and - yes I know this is difficult - ask family to introduce you to people who might be hiring.  Online isn't enough.
