  1. Because you could have a miscarriage or a stillborn and you don't want to have all these nice clothes and no baby. I know someone who had a stillborn and was heart broken.

  2. It's just silly.

Buy baby clothes before the baby is born.  Plain and simple :)

  3. I have never heard that version before but I have been told that you shouldn't buy anything for the baby until you get to six months or so. they say it's because if you lose the baby then you don't want all the stuff around because it will drive a the woman insane. Personally I think it's an old wives tale I would go ahead and buy your baby clothes and what ever else you need. I have and I am only 22 wks and 6 six days. I also did it with my first pregnancy and nothing bad happened.

  4. They say that because you might miscarry or have a birth ending in the death of the child, so having bought the baby clothes just places your mind on your loss more. Saying it brings you bad luck is just a way of keeping the parents from buying the baby clothes until after the child is born, and instead receiving baby clothes given to them by others. That way if the child is lost then the loss isn't as devastating as it could be. This notion mostly came about in the olden days when many a child died during childbirth or through miscarriage, which isn't as likely these days. If someone had just given you some baby clothes, then you could always give them back if things didn't turn out right. But if you had actually bought the clothes then you would have invested some of yourself into those clothes, created an attachment, and it would make a bad outcome harder to handle.

  5. It's an old superstition from back in the day when miscarriages and stillbirths were more common  :)

  6. Because they're superstitious bovines?

  7. I heard not to before you know what the baby is, not just for that, but after 27 weeks, your baby can survive outside the womb if something bad should happen.

  8. its not before the babys born they say its bad luck to buy clothes early in the pregnancy say before 6 or 7 months just in case of something misfortunate happening

  9. Many people feel that you're tempting fate somehow if you buy anything early.  Unfortunately, even if you go to the hospital in labor, there is no guarantee that you will go home with a baby.  Terrible things can happen.

If you're not superstitious about other things, then you shouldn't let this bother you, either.

  10. At least that way if something terrible happens and you miscarry or something, at least you won't have baby clothes. Pretty stupid, huh?

People say things like that because it's easier than thinking.

  11. I've never heard that.  It's unwise to buy clothes during the first trimester.  A lot can happen.

Buy that baby some clothes.  You probably won't feel like it or want to do it after the baby comes.

I personally don't believe in luck.
