Why do some producers make 440ml beer cans in the UK?

Beer cans can be purchased in the UK in various sizes, mostly 1 pint and 0.5l - 1 pint is the traditional beverage size in the UK, half a litre in Europe, but why 440ml? You cannot even buy glasses of such size.

  1. weird i know, i think they are doing it to rip us off

  2. Probably just part of their marketing.  I mean the different sizes doesn't mean much to the beer but it can affect people's ability to notice the product on a shelf as well as their profit margin on the beer.  Personally I'm a sucker for beer that comes in odd packaging (bring back the stubby bottle!).
