I asked if I could earn money from my spare room and I received no answers in 3 hours.

I asked a question about religion and I have about 20 answers in less than a minute.

  1. That's a pretty obvious answer. Asking about a spare room is a very mundane thing. It can't be used against you, hurt you, heal you...it just something trivial. Religion has no simple answer. That's why it can create so much emotion.

  2. There's more people who hang around the religion area than the fiances area.

That and it's harder to write a snarky one-liner in response to using an extra room for board.

  3. Because of the topic being central to a person's identify.

An emotional response to something is also what makes memories hold longer. This is why we remember good and bad times much easier than the boring times. This is why when we ask ourselves what we did this weekend we can't really remember but we know it took all weekend to do it. There just wasn't an emotional response to the daily humdrum life I led this weekend.

  4. Either the subject (in this case, religion) is touchy, or people are thin-skinned.

  5. The question about religion appeals to more people and most people are very opinionated about it. That's the obvious reason for the 20 answers in less than a minute. Also the religion section is a lot more populated than your other section, I'm guessing. As for your first question, not many can relate to it, hence no one will answer it.

  6. Also, if you ask a question about someone's opinion versus advice based on someone's experience, you'll naturally have more answers.  Your question about renting a room has a very limited pool of possible responses, but almost everyone has something to say about religion.
