  1. They tape their thighs in order to make it eaasier for them to be lifted in the lineout - by doing this it gives the lifters a much better grip than if they were using bare skin as a grip

  2. i dont know if you've noticed but its mostly the forwards that jump in line-outs that strap their thighs. it makes it easier for the other players to lift them up. have a look at the front of the strap and check how it bulges out.

  3. Possibly to protect and support the muscle.

  4. i wear them so i can jump higher in lineouts because i can be lifted about a foot higher with them aposed to being lifted by the shorts

  5. In the pack immense forces are use by your legs to push forward so to prevent cramping injuries due to over exertions some pressure is placed on the muscle. this also stops muscle slip. it's the same reason weight lifters wear tight cat suit type thing when lifting very heavy weights.

  6. It's for lifting the jumpers come line-out time.  There is a thick ridge which is tough to see, but it gives the props more of a grip on the locks

  7. Help with lifting in the line--out. It get pretty slippery after a while

  8. It's to help get a grip when lifting in the line outs.

  9. It is to aid lifting in the line out.  It is some padding strapped to the leg, just above the knee creating a ridge which the lifters can push against.  without this grip isn't so good, and the hands slip up the leg losing vital height.
