Question:

Why do some rugby players wear tape around their legs?

As I have been getting into rugby more and more, I have noticed that some players wear what looks like electric tape and some gauze or cloth around their thighs. I was wondering how come they do this. I figure the tape around the ears is to prevent cauliflower, but I am not sure about it around the thighs. Thanks.

  1. Hey Rabbit,

it helps the line out guys getting lifted in the line out. Also, these boys are young and they want to look cool. So there you have it Rabbit.

  2. To help the lifters get a good hold in the lineout.

  3. the jumpers in the lineout normally wear the tape around their legs. it makes it easier for the lifters to hold on

  4. Those are the lock forwards.  Since they get lifted in the line-out they take foam, wrap it in gauze, then tape it just above their knees so that the lifters can get a better grip and gain more height.   Lifting without sausages as they are called is a serious hassle, and a bit dangerous since the jumper will be unstable in the air.

  5. For lifting players in line outs
