I have been raised in foreign country. I just come to US after my graduation. Here, I see some high school students taking homeschooling. Why do they prefer stay at home?

  1. They have better things to do with their time than spend it in the classroom.  There is a big world and too many places to go and people to meet.

There are so many opportunities available to homeschoolers that just aren't possible with public school.  You can learn what you want, when you want and there is just more to do outside of a school building.

    :D

  2. My step daughter chose to finish high school in a different way because (her words): School is a waste of time.  I am there for 7 hours and get maybe 1 hour of learning. Most of the time is spent getting the other students to settle down.

  3. Or maybe they dont want to be around the crazy people who come to school with guns and bombs and threaten to kill everyone. The world is crazy today.

  4. In California,  it is because illegal aliens disrupt the classes and take up too much space and dumb down the classes.

  5. in my opinon students prefer homeschooling becuz maybe that theyre sick all the time, this gives them a chance to set their own class time. or another reason is maybe the kid has low self esteem and wants to be alone and considers him/herself a loser and doesnt wanna be exposed and interact to other peers, well i might be wrong about that one but u never kno

  6. some ppl are bullied to the point that they dont want to ever go to school again...,yet they still need an education....home schooling is the safe option.

  7. 1) Scheduling flexibility: instead of having to get up according to the school's timetable and working on things only according to the school's timetable, they can set up a schedule that works better for them. In some cases, this means doing school work all morning then being free to work at a job in the afternoon or go do other things outside the home.

    2) Academic flexibility: more choices and options at home, learn in your own style and at your own pace. This can mean for many finishing high school a year or two early (that is, assuming they've been homeschooled for more than just high school).

    3) The way things are at school: many schools have serious social problems and some students just don't want to spend their days in that situation.

    4) School staff: some kids get very fed up with how the school staff treats them that they decide it's better to homeschool.

  8. they get teased at school

  9. Maybe they are socially incapable of interacting with his/her fellow students. Or maybe they were bullied and are afraid to be bullied again. Or maybe they are part of a royal family that their lives are always in danger so they prefer to study at home.

  10. There are as many reasons that some families homeschool. Many families homeschool in to provide thier child with a better education, a safe learning environment,  to meet special needs that can't be properly met in a large group, to allow students to work at thier own pace, to spend more time in religious instruction, to be with thier family and really get to know one another.... The list could go on forever. We homeschool for a combination of these reasons.

The most importantly we challange ourselves to nuture our children "in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" Eph 6:4 We don't believe we can do this if 8 hours of thier day is spent without anyone training them in Godly character.

My eldest had opportunity to spend some time in school last year. He asked to be brought back home. His reasons to be at home included: he can learn as much as he wants about something before moving on to the next lesson,if he's sick he doesn't get behind the rest of the class, if he doesn't understand something the first time he can have "do overs" and doesn't get marked down because he didn't understand the first time, there aren't "mean" kids at home, and he loves to be with his family and spend  time with friends. He also has much more time for recreational activites as he can complete his lessons for the day in about 4 hours.

While some time is spent learning at home, there are many opportunities to learn that are outside a textbook and classroom. Because our school days are shorter we have lots of time to explore the library, zoo, parks, science centers, nature, volunteer in the community,do hobbies and just hang out with each other.

  11. I'm doing correspondance, an online course, kind of like home schooling, but without an actual teacher.

I make appointments every couple weeks to go hand in my work and write whichever tests i need to write.

Its cause I don't live at home, and I need to work full time to pay rent and buy the other things I need to live off of.

  12. I was homeschooled for a couple years during high school.

Why I chose to stay at home was because for those years I was quite ill. The school schedule was too hectic and exhausting for me to be able to keep up with, since I was mainly concerned with combating the health issues I had at the time.

Without that option of being homeschooled, I would have had to put off school for 2 years. So when I went back I'd be in classes with people 2 years younger, which would have sucked :]

It allowed me to go back amongst my peers when I returned to school.

  13. I have decided to stay out of school because I will get a better education and a more realistic picture of the world than I would if I were in school.

I don't sit at home all day while my mom gives a history lecture, and, le gasp, I have friends. Even a boyfriend.

I can learn at my own pace, the way that works best for me. In most cases, that means I go faster than the average student. Sometimes it means I'm slower.

Making someone do work at a certain pace doesn't guarantee they're going to actually be learning it. I can make someone do three math lessons a day, but that doesn't mean that in six months, they'll actually know pre-calculus.

I know that if I go to school, I probably won't get shot, stabbed, or blown up. By itself, that's a stupid reason to avoid schools. There are plenty of good reasons, though.

For one thing, the American school system is the Prussian system, which was designed to create obedient soldiers who would march off cliffs if ordered, and create a rigid caste society in which people looked to the state instead of their families or communities for help. It's intended to crush your humanity and make you a drone.

Academic quality is in freefall, the environment in most schools sucks, and it's such an artificial way to live.

I prefer my life. I wake up at 7, do schoolwork from 8 until noon, and then have the whole day free to hang out with my friends.

  14. well i'm thinking about homeschooling because the people in my class are holding me back. they do idiotic things that just get in the way of trying to get an education. Just getting picked on enough will make you want homeschooling. + sometimes teachers don't know what's going on in student's lives & they are inconsiderate and mean.

  15. My friend's younger brother decided on homeschooling because he felt the curriculum was a joke (his words, not mine).  He was sick and tired of class time being consumed by unruly kids and teachers who had to try and keep the peace before he or she could even begin teaching.  :)

  16. Some kids want a more academic education than that offered by schools...or a more vocational education...or a more culturally appropriate education...or a more personally relevant education...or a more challenging education

For some kids, their priority is to participate in sport or acting etc and so they need the flexibility that only home-education can truly offer

Some kids have to care for their younger siblings, disabled parents, their own children etc

A few parents want a religious education for their children

Without home-education, a child's only other option might be a failing school or an unsafe school etc

Their local schools may not offer the courses they want to study

Their parents may not share the ideology espoused by mass schooling

Some kids live on the road because of their parents' jobs etc and so are never in the same place long enough to attend a conventional school.

Some families have to move frequently as a result of a parent's job etc and may find it easier and more productive to home-educate their children rather than having them change schools every year or so

Some kids' parents believe that when a person has kids, they ought to raise those kids themselves and not simply hand them over to the 'Nanny' (the government or school system) to raise for them.

Some kids live too far away from any conventional school to be able to attend.

They're just a very few reasons; every home-educated kid will have their own individual reasons for homeschooling

  17. I didn't really have a choice in the matter.

  18. because they might have had a bad experience they may have been bullied or maybe they think they don't fit in.maybe they feel they are more serious about learning and graduating then the ones around then.and maybe their teachers are not so smart or positive toward them . there is a lot of reasons.these are just some off the top of my head.
