Why do some thunderstorms, do not have a calm before the gust front arives?

before this bow echo i had i had strong southwest winds all day even before the storm, and then they just got way stronger as the gust front passed through and the rain core, no calm

Not every storm has a 'calm' before it.  Some storms are formed by mechanisms other than instability from heating.  Some storms form via mechanisms whereby lift is created due to the interaction of opposing flows (i.e. think of two trains speeding toward each other hitting head-on - some of that energy has to go upwards as it cannot go down into the ground).  Therefore, there is no calm as it's wind that is feeding these storms in the first place.
